Virtual Meeting MINUTES
September 11, 2024
Members Present (12 members; no vacancy): Glen Bassett and Geetha Padaki, co-chairs;
Linda Dixon; Yfang Gong; Dave Grabel; Mary Hutton; Cerise Jalelian; Gresh Lattimore; Lorain
Marquis; Sandy Podgorski; Sue Stering. Absent: Sondra Lucente. Honorary: Robert Tracy.
Quorum: 7 Full Committee Members
Subcommittee Members Present (15 members; 5 vacancies): Jamie Lee, Ashley Rooney,
Perla Walling-Sotolong. Absent: Sudha Balasuryan, Steve Cole, Bonnie Karshbaum, Mirela Vaso,
Pam Winters, Huma Wasim, Hong Xie.
Also Present: Karen Tyler, Veterans Services Director.
7:02 PM: Meeting called to order by Co-Chair Geetha.
7:14 PM: Minutes of September 11, 2024 approved.
Veterans Day Pre-Planning Committee /Jamie, Linda, Lorain
Veterans Breakfast& Ceremony (November 2) at Knights of Columbus Hall
- Doors open at 8am; breakfast at 9am, over by 10:30am.
- Lorain following K of C details; Sandy is working on the slide show; and Sue working with Mike
Egbert at LHS for the essays.
- A photographer is needed.
Veterans Day Car Parade (November 11)
- Lorain discussed whether to change Donations by Guests (not Veterans) to $10 from $5 per
person. Group consensus wanted the $5 charge to continue.
- St Brigid has a new priest who is anxious to be community-friendly. Perhaps use its hall for
bathroom availabilty and its parking lot for the end of the parade"
- Jamie: parade to start at Scottish Rite parking lot at 11 am and hopefully end at St Bridgid Cars
to be decorated under supervision of Cerise and Bonnie. Boy& Girl Scouts to help at both ends
of the parade. Participants include LHS Band, Police and Fire Departments, and Minutemen.
- Is the Committee prepared to pay a fee to the William Diamond Junior Fife & Drum Corps?
We will advertise for additional cars to participate.
Patriots' Day Parade (April 19, 2025)/ Dave
- Veterans Day and Patriots' Day documents submitted to Town, 9/9/2024 by Geetha.
- Marching Units APPLICATION DEADLINE is December 1. Dave to send out a letter to all
interested parties, including actress Rachel Dratch.
- Judgements about whether to include interested religious groups will be overseen by Linda.
- Credentialling of vehicles will be handled by Cleve Coates of the Police Dept.
- How many police escorts will be required?
- Select Woman Suzie Barry is sending out invitations to important political persons.
- TCC to have control of the Viewing Stand.
- Need to liaise with Jonas/Town re: upgrades to our TCC webpage.
- Karen, VSO, reminded us that the Massachusetts Heros' Act was officially in Lexington back in
August. New cash benefits are available. Our local State Representative Michelle Ciccolo
presided.
- TCC Meeting Purpose
- Geetha wants "coordinate sponsorships" deleted. Gresh to contact Samantha Lino, Select
Board Admin. Geetha will then present it to the Town.
MILK Day/ Mary
- Mary has volunteered to oversee the small Town finance of this event.
- She's looking for a co-chair.
