Lexington Youth Commission
Minutes of Meeting Held on Thursday, December 12th, 2024
A Meeting of the Lexington Youth Commission was held on Thursday, December 12th,
2024. The meeting began at 7:00pm at the LPD Community Room.

2000 Pound Challenge Debrief
- Jack how successful the food drive was. We raised more food this year that prior years,
and surpassed our goal
- Deb shared a thank you note from the people who run the food pantry
Turkey Deliveries Debrief
- Izzy shared the experience of delivering the turkeys before Thanksgiving
- The deliveries went well generally, except a few cases (especially at apartment
complexes) where there was trouble contacting the families
- For next year: contact Shannon when you arrive at the Avalons, she has the families'
phone #s and can help us gain access to the buildings.
- Families are very grateful for the deliveries and it's always a rewarding experience
Tree Lighting Event Debrief
- Sofia talked about the tree lighting event in Depot Square
- LYC members dressed up in costume and handed out bells and candy canes at the event
- Our group was very much appreciated and enjoyed by all who attended. We thank Ava
Keival and LYC Singers.
250 Calendar Flipping Debrief
- LYC members met outside the Lex250 countdown calendar to take a picture changing the
numbers
- The picture can be found on our Instagram account (@lexington.youth.commission) as
well the countdown Instagram (@Iex250celebrations)
Toys for Tots Debrief
- LYC collected 58 42-gallon bags worth of toys
- We collected more toys than any other group in the Middlesex and Essex Counties.
- Detective Sowle will be attending our January meeting, bringing pizza for all.
- This event was very successful and we made a huge difference and were able to collect
many toys for kids in the area
Upcoming Events
- The next event will be writing out Valentine's Day cards for senior citizens in the area
- Next meeting we will hand out the cards to be hand written and decorated.
- The March event will be the eyeglass cleaning for the Lions Club.
- We are still waiting on approval for being the hype squad for the Patriot's Day parade. We
will know by the next meeting.
Tom's Time
- Summer hiring starts soon for the Lexington Recreation Department.
- The Recreation Department is also looking for someone to be a media person and take
picture/content for the different programs over the summer.
- Sarah, Brett, and Keya shared their experiences working for the Recreation Department.
Everyone had glowing things to say about it.

Our next Meeting is Thursday, January 9th at 7:00 pm at the Lexington Police
Department Community Room. As always, attendance is necessary! PIZZA will be served!
