HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-02-24-APART-min.pdf February 24, 1943 Honorable Board of Selectmen Town Office Building Lexington, Mass Gentlemen The Committee appointed by you for the purpose of compiling an Apartment House Code to replace the present Tenement House Act, under which the Town has been operating for the past several years, is pleased to submit for your approval their completed report The Committee, during the course of the work, submitted copies of a tentative report to the National Board of Fire Underwriters and to the Town Planning Board The suggestions and criticisms received from both of these Boards were carefully considered and any that the Committee felt were practical were incorporated in the final report Suggested changes made by the Town Counsel in his study of the report have also been made The Committee has tried to follow as closely as possible the rules and regulations of the communities in close proximity to Lexington, and communities of a comparable character that apparently have successfully governed these special types of buildings The Committee was unable to hold any public meet- ings due mostly to lack of time but doubts from previous experience whether or not these public meetings are particularly beneficial to a code of this kind Board of Selectmen -2- February 24, 1943 This report is being submitted to you as it is the Committee ' s understanding that, having been appointed by the Selectmen, the report on being completed should be submitted to you for your approval and presentation to the coming Town Meeting Kindly advise us if we may be of any further service to you in this matter either previous to , or at the Annual Town Meeting where presumably this report will be presented.
