Honorable Board of Selectmen
Town Office Building
Lexington, Mass
Gentlemen
The Committee appointed by you for the purpose
of compiling an Apartment House Code to replace the
present Tenement House Act, under which the Town has
been operating for the past several years, is pleased
to submit for your approval their completed report
The Committee, during the course of the work,
submitted copies of a tentative report to the National
Board of Fire Underwriters and to the Town Planning Board
The suggestions and criticisms received from both of
these Boards were carefully considered and any that the
Committee felt were practical were incorporated in the
final report Suggested changes made by the Town Counsel
in his study of the report have also been made
The Committee has tried to follow as closely as
possible the rules and regulations of the communities in
close proximity to Lexington, and communities of a comparable
character that apparently have successfully governed these
special types of buildings
The Committee was unable to hold any public meet-
ings due mostly to lack of time but doubts from previous
experience whether or not these public meetings are
particularly beneficial to a code of this kind
Board of Selectmen -2- February 24, 1943
This report is being submitted to you as it is
the Committee ' s understanding that, having been appointed
by the Selectmen, the report on being completed should be
submitted to you for your approval and presentation to the
coming Town Meeting Kindly advise us if we may be of any
further service to you in this matter either previous to ,
or at the Annual Town Meeting where presumably this report
will be presented.
Yours very truly,
