HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-02-01-GARDEN-min.pdf Meeting of Garden Committee held Feb. 1 - Selectmen's Room The meeting was called to order at 11 00 a.m and those present were as follows Mr. Spencer, Mr. Lamont, and Mr. Garrity. A letter from the Board. of Selectmen dated January 5 was read and taken into consideration. A letter from Alfred Johnson of Somerville offering 2 lots of land, about 25,000 sq. ft. , at the corner of Payson and Grassland Streets for the use of any resident. Mr. MacIntosh offered a piece of land, all plowed, at Sunnyfield, North Lexington. Mr. Nichols offered about 2 acres off Oak Street Mr Lamont reported that Mr Couette was plowing up land off Follen Road to be used for garden purposes by the residents of that section. The question of the application of Mr Coughlin for the use of lots 40 and 41 on Dexter Road was taken up and the Committee thought it would be wiser if Mr. Coughlin wouldplant on the Sunnyfield lot. This would give the Board of Selectmen a better chance to sell these two lots. It was voted that all churches be requested, before the next meeting, to make an announcement that a meeting is being called on March 3, at 8:00 p.m. and all persons interested in having a garden this year, but not having land for this purpose, are invited. It was suggested that the Committee look up the possibility of using land owned by the Lexington Savings Bank on Hancock Street. A list of applications at present are G M Rogers, 81 Hancock St. Cyril V Seymour, 11 Bedford Street; Charles Brenton Jackson Court; Randolph W Nelies, 15 Maple Street; Daniel F Coughlin, 52 Dexter Road; Raymond II Durling, 21 Outlook Drive. It was voted to ask the Board of Selectmen to make a small amount of money, say 0100, available for the Committee to spend Meeting of Garden Committee Feb 1, 1943 Page 2. on plowing and getting the ground in condition if they were warranted. The meeting adjourned at 11 50 until March 3, at which. time they will ask all persons interested in having a garden to attend. This meeting will be held in Estabrook Hall at 8 00 p.m. . La/04s
