HomeMy WebLinkAbout1941-11-04-LCPS-min.pdf LEXINGTON COMMITTEE ON PTTBLIC SAFETY November 4, 1941 A regular meeting of the Lexington Committee on Public Safety was held in the Town Office Building on Tuesday evening, November 4, 1941 at 8 00 P M. Chairman Luther Putney, Messrs Harold B Lamont , Alan G Adams , Robert Person, Walter Sands , Robert Whitney, Lee Tarbox, Allen Rucker, Dr Crumb and Mr Boireau and Mr Rogow were also present The Chairman read a letter from the School Committee stating that the school buildings could be used for defense purposes providing the uses do not interfere with any school programs The Chairman informed the Committee that the Appropriation Committee had requested the budget for 1942 The Clerk informed the Committee that budgets were to be in at the soonest possible date and not later than November 27th The Chairman reported that the Appropriation Committee had approved the sum of $100 00 for the purpose of setting up a Report Center Mr Lamont reported that the card index systensfor both men and women are now completed Mr Sands commented on the two letters , received this week by each member of this Committee One was a letter from the Chairman and the other was a copy of a letter received from Mr Rogow Mr Sands informed the Committee that he had had a conference with Daniel Needham who was of the opinion that a Planning Division for Lexington was unnecessary and that Mr Rogow was in error Mr Sands read the following "Following receipt of Mr Rogow' s letter defining functions of the Planning Division - which definition is wholly contrary to previously published definitions - I took the entire matter up with General Needham He advised me that Mr Rogow was completely in error And, in order to retain the services of other divisions , that have been functioning in complete accord with State desires , he could see no need for any Planning Division in the Town of Lexington Therefore, I offer the following motion That the Planning Division be eliminated from the Lexington Committee on Public Safety, and that its duties and functions be performed by the Chairman of the Executive Committee and its other members " Mr. Robert Whitney seconded the motion, and it was so voted It was also moved and seconded that the Planning Division be thanked for all its services to date At 9 :05 P M Mr Rogow requested that the Secretary leave the meeting. At 9 :25 P M. the Secretary returned to the meeting Mr Lamont informed the Committee that there was a balance left in the Planning Division Appropriation It was decided that the balance, together with the files , etc be retained by the Committee The Chairman called the members attention to the fact that next Tuesday is a holiday It was decided to hold the meeting on Monday and Mr Allen Rucker will be in charge as it will not be possible for the Chairman to attend The meeting adjourned at 10 10 P M.
