Mr. Albert H. Burnham,
Chairman of Selectmen
Lexington , Mass.
Dear Sir:
The Committee chosen by you last November to study
the proposition of establishing a Town Forest , now submits
the following report,
1. Your Committee felt that they needed at least
100 acres of land in one lot for a 'Town Forest .
S. With the assistance of Mr. Frederick 3. Spencer,
all such lots of land were considered.
3. Only one such lot was found.
4. This land is situated near the Paint Mine 20 acres
being in the Town of Burlington the rest in Lexington, and is
owned by Franklin P. Simonds who is willing to sell it to the
Town for such a purpose for $75.00 an acre, it being assessed
at $60.00 an acre.
5. Your Committee does not recommend the purchase of this
land by the Town for the purpose of owning a forest , as the cost
is too great to permit it to succeed as a commercial proposition.
6. Your Committee does recommend that the Town, under
Chapter 45, Section 3 General Laws , consider the purchase of this
land as a Public Park and Wild Lale Sanctuary which will , for all
time, serve the growing needs of the citizens of Lexington.
Respectfully submitted,
