LEXINGTON Til''N OFFICE. BUILDING.
The building itself is on the same order as the Memorial
Building in its style. The red brick walls and white triMmings
suggest the Colonial architecture of the time of the Revolution,
and the slate roof also belongs to the period, but the interior
7
makes no pretense at being antique. The floors are terraMoiand
composition tile, the wall surfaces hard plaster with an egg shell
finish, and the stairs wrought iron with [worth River Stone trends.,;
The corridors run along the South side of the building with
a staircase at either end, The town offices all open off these
corridors, and are connecting, so that departments can overflow into
additional space without being cut up.
Each department has its own flrepboof vault and there to n large
general vault in the basement. tsvery office le well lighter] by
outside windows, and heated by radiators connected with the boiler
plant of the Memorial Building. All have generous provision fpr
artificial light.
All offices will beuipped with the best types Of filing devices
and office furniture,(and those visited by the public will have 2
counters and grills, like a bank. The corridrp also, will each be \
I ,
provided with a counter and writing materials, of the kind used in
banking rooms.)
Et, Conveniences c —a`00ei mWen*- will be provided for the Employees
of the building, and for theliic"
The maintenance cost of the building will be extremely low,
owing to the permanenoecab the materials used. It will be further
cut by a much reduced insurances rate resulting from the use of
sprinklers,
