10.24.24
1. Meeting was called to order by Pat Moyer, co-chair, at 7:30 AM. Present: Gavin Grant,
Gerry Paul, Barbara Tarrh, Nancy Sofen, Alicia Morris,Joe Pato(Select Board), Pat Moyer.
2. A letter from us supporting the activities of the proposed creation of an Urban Forest
Master Plan, prepared by Pat, was read and amended. We voted unanimously to
approve it as amended. It will be attached to the application for a grant from the state
for funds, and is cc'd below.
3. Gavin brought up issues with Hartwell Ave planting. There is a Transportation
improvement plan, to be embarked upon sometime over the next 1-10 years, for that
area. DPW reluctant to plant setback trees there as they may need to be removed (road
widening, median strip). On the + side, there is a preliminary tree planting plan. Pat will
contact John Livsey to alert him to our interest in being a part of selection of trees for
the area, when things are further along.
4. The minutes of September 12 were approved unanimously.
5. Not all the trees ordered for fall planting have sites yet. The reluctance to plant in grass
strips/ROW was discussed and tabled for now, to be taken up at the next regular
meeting.
6. We adjourned at 8 AM.

The Lexington Tree Committee enthusiastically supports the application of the Town of
Lexington for an Urban and Community Forestry Challenge Grant to develop an urban forest
master/management plan for the town. We understand the critical role that trees play in
ameliorating the impacts of climate change, reducing storm water and air pollution impacts,
providing shade, wind mitigation, and habitat for humans and animals alike. The Tree
Committee plans to undergird the planning effort by sending a representative to serve on the
grant's steering committee, to help to provide publicity, and to work energetically to plan and
carry out public educational meetings in support of this effort. We are interested in and will
continue to provide long-term participation in the implementation of this plan.
