Julie Shapiro called the meeting to order at 2:37pm
Public Comments: Laureen Szurk to come and observe the COA meeting
New Business: John and Bonnie emailed regarding her interest in joining
our Age Friendly working group, and she is interested if the time we meet
works.
Want to thank Jim Malloy, Jill Hai, and Kelly Axtell for their support and
attending our AARP presentation today.
Review and Approval : of August minutes with pending edits from Janet.
Introduction of our new Outreach Clinician Juanica Buchanan.
Welcome and look forward working together.
Staff Reports and Program Updates:
Christine Dean: technology updates are being done in the Community
Center. Electric part is completed. LHS building project meeting
Wednesday Sept 18th at 6:30, public forum. Cultural Festival Grant was
awarded for $2500. To use throughout the year.
Michelle Kelleher: Kelsey is out on leave for 2 months. She will work
remotely on Thursdays. September is suicide prevention month. QPR
training Sept 10th (Virtual) 24th in person. Talk saves lives- Monday Sept 9th
and 23rd. Life Transition Binder course is full with 15 on waitlist.
Intergenerational Class- Spanish fun and tech help. Mahjong class has a
waitlist. Next trip to Encore.
Dana Brickelman: Town Manager interviews will be discuss at Select
Board meeting at 6:30pm on Sept 4th
Liaison Reports:
Minuteman Senior Services: Sudhir Jain: Free evidence based class for
Adults to Stay Healthy, Matter of Balance, Powerful tool for Caregivers., all
courses offered through MSS. Sept 7th 21St the 25th are fairs MSS is
having a booth. Also Senior awareness Fun Fair in Medford Sept 22nd.
Starting BINGOcise in Woburn on Wed/Fri. Hospital to Home support
Program through Emerson for 65 and older. Followed for 90 days.
Transportation Committee: Sudhir Jain: Meeting was to set goals to
improve transportation. Want to purchase new Lexpress bus. Discussion
involving 17 Hartwell Ave, crosswalk, sidewalk and more parking spaces.
Discussed Liberty Ride and a hop on hop off bus between
Lexington/Concord. John mentioned that transportation is part of our Age
Friendly initiative.
FCOA: Sudhir Jain No meeting. Had a fundraising working group.
Discussed inviting FCOA to a COA meeting in the future.
Disability Commission: Janet Perry: no update
Recreation Committee: Julie Shapiro- no update
Lexington Housing Authority: Sue Rockwell: no update
Vision for Lexington: Jyotsna Kakullavarapu No update. Working on
promoting High School students to vote.
Housing Partnership: John Zhao: no update
Mental Health & Wellness Task Force: Ellen Cameron/ Jyotsna
Kakullavarapu Website is still being edited. Discussion with schools
starting. New clinician starts next week from Edinburgh.
Strategic Equity Advisory Team (SEAT): Ellen Cameron no update
Our Aging in place fair will be May 6th from 4-6pm
