In view of the fact that the lowest bidder was not very well
known, the architect was requested to furnish the Committee with '
a statement of buildings constructed by Joseph S. Greenwood and
also of F. C. Alexander, who is the next lowest bidder, and also
advise whether they find the construction satisfactory or not.
Until this information is received no action will be taken on the
acceptance of the bids.
The Committee was pledged to secrecy on the bids owing to the
fact that no action will he taken until report is received.
The bid on grading from James E. Gray being considerable
lower than the average bids, the architect was requested to find
out whether Mr. Gray had sufficient time to figure the bid, and
asked him to check to see if this was his final figure.
Mr. Worthen read the report which he had prepared to present
to the Town Meeting.
He called the attention to the fact that the Committee had not
decided upon whioh scheme of grading they would adopt, and therefor
he could not make a statement in the report. The Committee felt that
that was a minor detail and could be straightened out by the Committee
later and felt that they could leave out any definite figures on
the grading in the report. It was voted unanimausly to adopt Scheme B.
of the grading plans.
Mr. Ballard also presented a report which he had prepared for
the Town Meeting. This report was read, and showed a different set up.
the
The Board then discussed the method of financing a new town hall.
It was felt by the Chairman that it should be financed in accordance
with the advice of Mr. Theodore N. Waddell, Director of Accounts of the
State.
In regard to the final report of the Committee it was decided
to have the Chairman appoint a committee of three to view the final
report and have power to act. The Chairman named Mr. Edwin B. Worthen,
Mr. Francis Chamberlain, and Mr. William H. Ballard as the committee.
It was understood that they would have the report prepared for the
Town Meeting and sent out with the warrants.
The meeting adjourned at 10:35 P.M.
