One is run by the cable company and the other is nan by a non-profit organization set up by the town for that purpose. He also mentioned that he knows of a station in Cape Cod and serves several towns and that he could do some research about it and report back to the committee. David Kanter reported about RCN negotiations. 'as of this morning we have a provisional license" he said. The next step is for RCN to satisfy some legal obligations and then "we will draft the final license"that it consists of changing the word 'provisional " for the word "final' in the document. Raul Marques asked how long will It take to have competition in town. David Kanter said that the license specifies that RCN has to start offering cable TV services 18 months after the final license is approved by the Board of Selectmen although internet access to the town buildings will happen in six months. Steve Ellis reported that the I-Net has been working well and that 'we are upgrading some buildings in town" and that it will be less expensive than expected. The bad news is that the money is in the 00 budget. David Kanter reported that it was made clear at Town Meeting that the mission of the committee was related to wireless as well as wired Communications. Regarding the Emergency Alert System, David Kanter said that 'starting today the fire chief will be able to have his voice on air" but not an image in case of an emergency With RCN the fire chief will have more than one message. 5/10/vv Page 2 of 2 Jane Gharibian said that we need to start the re-licensing process with Cablevision. The committee needs to do a Request for Proposal. Steve Ellis was appointed to chair the relicensing Subcommittee.
