Minutes of May 18, 1994
Present Cunha, Fray, Gharibian, Longcope, Mairson, Schoman,
Spencer, Stanton, Triessl, Warner and Paul Norton, representing
Cablevision
Newly appointed member Julie Longcope, MIS coordinator for the Town
was welcomed
Minutes of April 1994 meeting were accepted
Spencer reported that the Town's application for an NSF grant has
made it through the first round Further word is expected between
June 15 and July 15, 1994 The grant is for 3 years at
$750,000/yr Personnel, hardware and some contracted services will
be covered
An NTIA matching grant is scheduled for Oct 1, 1994 funding
BBN has been providing Internet training to school department
personnel
Payment of $25,000 was received from Cablevision within recent
weeks It had been requested January 28, 1994 It was pointed out
that that time period is greater than that allowed by the contract
Four bridges may be purchased for under $25,000 Spencer submitted
the prioritized list of bridges and invited comment
Warner stated that the joint dispatch system is a "classified
network" and requires higher level of security
Other points of discussion switching DPW and Public Satety, DPW use
of Novell, Sytek modems are a possibility for other sites in Fall
Some members felt unqualified to vote The 1994 plan was approved
The decision on the 1995 plan was deferred Mairson suggested that
written reports would be in order He also asked that the
Committee consider what would happen if the Institutional Trunk
were no longer provided as a free service
Vote was taken to approve three bridges to the schools and to town
for 1994
Spencer reports
1- I trunk and extensions - cable is in to MV facility at Lincoln
Labs Splices, amplifiers and power supplies yet to be done
Target date is June 15, 1994

fine tuning by Cablevision needs personnel allocation
By law, residential checks are mandated at greater frequency
Warner suggests this is issue for new licensee - more institutional
inspection
Public hearing is scheduled for June 20 Selectmen's meeting It
was decided that a brief presentation by a Committee spokesperson
would be helpful Other than that the Selectmen will guide the
meeting
Questionnaires need to be out before time of meeting Posibility
of funding from town to cover a mailing to 1/4 households
Distribution in public places Publicity in forms of articles,
letters and perhaps the form itself in minuteman Consider doing
a more technical questionnaire in the Fall Longcope will be liason
with the Town in this matter Triessl will write article Warner
and Gharibian will write letters to the editor Will be put on
cable community bulletin board
Mairson reporting on NATOA regarding action alert Federal
legislation may be unenforceable
John Urban is resigning from Massachusetts Cable Commission
Jay Somers will be replaced by David Green Committee encourages
Green to attend our meetings
Next meeting June 15, 1994 at 7 30p.m.
