Agenda:
1.—Agenda Item: Reorganization
Ms. Steigerwald moved to elect Mr.Alessandrini as Chair. (Steigerwald/Crocker)
The Motion was approved 4-0.
Ms. Jay recommended to the Committee that we not vote for Vice Chair at this time as it is so close to the
March election. After the election, new members will be able to participate in a reorganization.
Ms. Steigerwald disagreed and believed a Vice Chair is necessary to support the Chair. Ms. Steigerwald
nominated Judy Crocker for Vice Chair.
Mr. Alessandrini explained that he would love a Vice Chair, but that we have a tradition on the School
Committee of being neutral with regard to endorsing candidates. With Ms. Crocker running for re-
election,he thought that supporting her as Vice Chair would look like we are endorsing one candidate
over another for the March election.
Ms. Crocker recognized that Ms. Jay feels as though a Vice Chair is not needed, as that was her stance at
the last reorganization meeting as well. Ms. Crocker also heard Mr. Alessandrini saying that it is two
months before an election and he feels that we may not seem neutral. Ms. Crocker personally thought it
was important to have a Vice Chair, especially when the Chair is working full-time. However, Ms.
Crocker declined her nomination as Vice Chair due to any potential political implications.
