METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION
Rivets shall be removed by one of the following methods:
l.- Shear rivet head using a pneumatic rivet breaker
(HELLD06) and drive out rivet shank with a pneumatic
punch.
2.- Flame out rival head of %s" above the base meta/ using
a rival scarfing tlp and drive out shank using a
pneumatic punch. If, in the opinion of the Engineer,
rival shanks cannot be removed by punching without
damaging the base metal, the rivet shank shall be
removed by drilling. Remove only one rivet at a time
from any one rnernber and replace It with o high
strength bolt, unless authorized by the Engineer. The
replacement bolts shall be properly tensioned prior
to the removal of a subsequent rivet.
All Structural Steel shall conform to the requirements
of ASTM designation A3la, except as noted.
Preporafion and assembly of Materials for welding,
shall conform to the AWS Structural We/dMq Code
AWS D1-1-80 as amended by the /98/ AASHTO
Standard S'pecificatlons For Welding of Structural
Steel Highway Bridges olid current A,4SHTO.Fnterirn
