Minutes, Meeting of December 14, 2017
Attendees: John Frey (Chairman), Gerry Paul, Jewel Kuljian, Nancy Sofen, Jim Wood and Tree
Committee member candidate Pat Moyer.
Gerry Paul took his turn as scribe.
1. Minutes of the November 9th meeting were approved as amended.
2. Tree inventory- no new information
3. Tree bylaw activity- no new information
4. Tree Management Manual update, Bruce Walker compensation -will be voted on when we have
approximate cost.
5. 2017 Tree Planting - no new information
6. Mass Ave Sidewalk reconstruction -deferred
7. New TC member search -John will see if there is anything more the TC must do. Pat Moyer will fill
out an application.
8. Tree Committee website update - not discussed.
9. Striped Maple replacement in Nell Walker's grove- no new information
10. Amend Tree Bylaw to address dense housing developments- no new information
11. Emerald Ash Borer out reach. Javier Marin from the Mass Department of Agricultural Resources
presented potential programs to encourage early identification of Emerald Ash Borer. He will follow
up after the new year. Jordan McCarron from the Lexington Conservation Department will
coordinate.
12. Tree planting locations/planting best practices study- Nancy, Jim and Gerry presented a summary of
interviews with the tree wardens of Cambridge, Belmont and Watertown. Will be discussed further at
future meetings.
