Welcome
Area of Focus:the new Homework Policy and Estabrook's Homework Pilot in year two
• Review resources: new district Homework Policy, implementation guidelines, and Estabrook homework
report(end of year one)
• Discuss impressions of homework pilot(year two)
• Review the School Improvement Plan homework goal and recommend next steps
Outcomes
• Parents shared impressions of Estabrook homework pilot experiences. Overall, enjoy homework policy but
engaged in a discussion of personal student accountability and habit of homework.
• Staff members shared homework experiences,ie.benefits of being able to assign/modify targeted tasks as
needed.
• Determine effectiveness of the Monthly Homework calendars.Monthly homework calendars can be
helpful as a starting off point, but how many families are utilizing them? Are they practical for all families?
• Discussed the idea that families would like homework because of the responsibility and accountability that
homework is thought to teach. What is the evidence that homework directly teaches executive function
skills,as well as responsibility and accountability? What other vehicles can be used to foster those skills?
• Other concerns: some parents feel homework provides daily communication.
o Content vs.Academic Progress
• We would like to gather feedback regarding how parents are interacting with school/teachers -newsletters,
Twitter,homework calendar,websites,etc.
