Minutes of Meeting
December 14, 2017
A meeting of the Community Center Program Advisory Committee (CCPAC)was held on Thursday,
December 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Lexington Community Center, 39 Marrett Road, Lexington.
Meeting Attendees: Members - Lisah Rhodes, John Zhu, Archana Singhal,Nancy Shepard(Chair)
Ex-Officio Member Attendees: Charlotte Rodgers (Director of Human Services), Christine Dean
(Community Center Director), Doug Lucente (Board of Selectman), Susan Rockwell (Historical
Society)
Unable to attend: Melissa Battite (Director of Recreation & Community Programs), Alessandro
Alessandrini, Daniel Palant,Nancy Adler
The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm.
1. Minutes of November 9,2017
The minutes from the November meeting were reviewed and unanimously accepted.
2. Citizens and Other Boards
There were no citizens or other boards present at this meeting.
3. Community Center Director Updates
• Christine Dean,Community Center Director,reported that there is a new bench at the LexPress
bus stop outside the Community Center. It was donated by Meg Himmel in memory of her
mother.
• The Lexington Field and Garden Club will be doing regular work on the grounds.
• The winter session has started. Many programs are full. There is a new yoga class. There are
drop in times for Watercolor painting,Needlework and Corn Hole.
• The Building Use Plan is still being worked on. There is a plan to meet with the BOS in the
New Year.
• Thomas Romano, Youth and Family Program Coordinator reported on some recent programs.
There are new adaptive programs and a plan to offer additional programming for children with
special needs.
• A new position for a part-time Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist has been requested
as part of the FYI operating budget as a Program Improvement Request.
• A program survey is being sent out after each session. There are an increasing number of
responses. There was a suggestion to make the survey available on the website to increase
responses.
• Charlotte Rodgers, Director of Human Services,reported that they have gotten good feedback
from the new format for the newsletter. There will be a Martin Luther King Day of Service
event at Brookhaven from 1-3 pm on January 15th. This is a new format for the program.
4. Community Center Expansion Update
The FY 19 Capital budget request included funds for Design documents for the expansion plan
for the Community Center. There will be a presentation from DiNisco about options at the
BOS meeting at 7pm on January 8th.
5. Liaison Reports
• Lisah,Nancy,Christine and Melissa met with Carl Valente prior to our December meeting.We
discussed our concerns about quorum issues and the charge of the committee. We plan to
discuss this at the January meeting.
• Melissa suggests that we plan to have combined meetings with the Recreation committee at
least 2 times per year. It was suggested that the Council on Aging also be included at these
meetings.
• Sue Rockwell reminded us that the Historical Society holds the Preservation Agreement on the
CC property and that some changes would need approval.
• Archana reported that IAL will have a candidate forum before the March elections.
• Lisah reported that on January 20th from 10-2,the Community Center will host an Open House
that will focus on Summer Camps and Out of School Time Programs.
• We discussed the idea of having a Volunteer Fair so members of the community could learn
about volunteer opportunities in town.
The next meeting of the Community Center Program Advisory Committee is scheduled to take
place on Thursday, January 11, 2017 at 7:OOpm in Room 237 of the Lexington Community
Center.
The December 14, 2017 meeting of the Community Center Program Advisory Committee adjourned
at 8:40pm.
