SELECTMENIS MEETING
August 25, 1941
A special meeting of the.Board of Selectmen was held
in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, Lexington
on Monday evening, August 25, 1941 at 5:00 P. M. The mem-
bers were notified of this special meeting by letter dated
August 23, 1941, said letters being delivered by police car.
Chairman Giroux, Messrs. Potter and Barano were present.
The Clerk was also present.
Mr. James J. Carroll, Town Treasurer, appeared before
Loan the Board and presented the following bids on a loan amount-
ing to $75,000.00 in anticipation of revenue. The notes tre to
be dated August 26, 1941 and payable August 21, 1942.

Tyler & Company .11% it plus $1.00
Mr. Potter moved that the bid of Tyler & Company be
approved. Mr. Sarano seconded the motion, and it was so
voted.
Mr. Carroll retired at 5:07 P. M.
The meeting adjourned at 5:17 P. M.

SELECTMEN'S MEETING
August 25, 1941
A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in
the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, Lexington on Mon-
day evening, August 25, 1941 at 7:30 P. M. The members were
notified of this special meeting by letter dated August 23,
1941, said letter being delivered by police car. Chairman
Giroux, Messrs. Potter, Rowse and Sarano were present. The
Clerk was also present.
Messrs. Nathan B. Bidwell, William A. Cann, Leigh V.
Farnham and E. A. Lindstrom appeared before the Board to
discuss the application for demolition of the present Cen-
tral House Block and application for permit to build on
that site.
Messrs. Cann, Farnham and Lindstrom retired at 8:25 P.M.
Mr. T. A. Custance appeared before the Board and re-
tired at 8:50 P. M.
Mr. Bidwell retired at 9:05 P.M.
The Chairman said that Mr. Paxton was very much impressed
with a large book published in Cleveland relative to municipal
government. He thinks it is the finest book of its kind.. The
same firm puts out a correspondence course and he would like
to take it. The cost will be $35.00 from which the price of
the book will.be deducted. He asked if the Board would
authorize him to take the course and allow the Town to pay
for it. The Board felt that if Mr. Paxton was interested
in the course that he should pay for it himself.
.The Chairman told the Board the next meeting would be
on Tuesday, September 2nd.
The Chairman said it had been suggested to him that
it might be a help to the Board if a committee was appointed
to work between the Board and Mr. Scott and to give infor-
mation to the townspeople on the subject. It was decided
to take no action on this until the next meeting.
The Chairman said that the matter of increased reim-
bursement for the Plumbing and Building Inspectors would be
discussed at the next meeting.
The Chairman said that Mr. C. W. Ryder wrote to
Senator Lodge and Representative Rogers recommending that
the Town purchase some 80 acres of his land off Waltham
Street for a National Park. The Chairman read a letter
from the Planning Board w hick said that that body felt
this was not a suitable place for such a park. They be-
lieved that the area now laid out for park and playground

needs is adequate and that the property was well situated
for residential purposes. The Chairman asked if the Board
concurred with the Planning.Board in the matter and the
Board did.
The Chairman said that the Committee on Public Safety
was having a Defense Meeting on Tuesday, September 23rd
Defense and hoped that the entire Board would be present. The
Day Committee also asked that the Selectmen issue a Proclama-
tion naming this day Lexington Defense Day.
Mr. Potter moved that the Chairman be authorized to
issue the desired proclamation. Mr. Sarano seconded the
motion, and it was so voted.
The Clerk was instructed to write Mr. William Roger
Greeley to attend the meeting next Tuesday night to dis-
cuss the proposed purchase of land at the corner of Park
Drive and Waltham Street.
The meeting adjourned at 9:35 P. M.
