It became necessary to declare an Emergency under
the provisions of Chapter 44, Sec. 31, G. L. today in
the Snow Removal appropriation, due to the fact that
about 1011 of snow fell during the night. Mr. Russell
informed Mr. Giroux that the balance in the Snow Removal
appropriation was $1400., and Mr. Paxton estimated that
this storm would cost about $2,000. Mr. Giroux instructed
the Clerk to telephone the members of the Board and see
if they would approve the declaration of an emergency.
Mr. Russell informed Mr. Giroux that the Town Meeting
could be held in the latter part of December, when we
knew the result of the Ham case. He said that the Board
undoubtedly would decide next Monday evening on the date for
the Town Meeting.
The Clerk telephoned all the Selectmen, and talked
with them all but Mr. Potter, who was out. Messrs. Giroux,
Rowse, Locke, and Sarano'all said that they approved the
declaration of an Emergency, so the Clerk notified Mr.
Russell that four members of the Board of Selectmen
approved the declaration of an Emergency in the Snow
Removal appropriation.
