SELECTMEN'S MEETING
NOV. 13, 1939.
A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held
in the Selectmen' s Room, Town Office Building, at 4 :00
P.M. Chairman Giroux and Messrs. Potter, Locke and Sarano
were present . The Clerk was also present.
Mr. Morse appeared before the Board to discuss Welfare
matters . Welfare
Mr. Morse stated that last week the Board voted to
employ Mr. James E. Collins as an investigator in the
Welfare Department at a salary of 018.00 per week for a
trial period of sixty days . He said that Collins was work-
ing for the W. P.A. in a supervisory capacity, and it had Employment
been reported that his employment was going to terminate of James
on November 18th. His employment has been extended for E. Collins
ten months and he is just about getting by on his present
salary, and does not feel that he can afford to take an-
other job at 04.00 per week less than he is getting now.
Mr. Leary of the State Department interviewed Mr. Collins
this morning, and thinks that the man will be very satis-
factory. Mr. Morse said he would like the matter reviewed,
and recommended that Collins be employed by the Town at a
salary of $22.50 per week. Mr. Locke moved that James E.
Collins be employed as an investigator in the Welfare
Department at a salary of 022.50 per week, for a sixty-day
trial period. Mr. Potter seconded the motion, and it was
so voted.
Letter was received from Louise G. Campbell, of the
Middlesex County Extension Service, requesting the use of Use of
Cary Hall on May 21st from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. , when Hall
the Annual Homemaker's Day is to be held. Mr. Potter
moved that the use of the hall be granted free of charge..
Mr. Locke seconded the motion, and it was so voted.
Deed of Lot 9, Lincoln Street, to be sold to Webster
L. Taylor was received. Mr. Locke moved that the deed Deed
be signed. Mr. Potter seconded the motion, and it was so signed.

Letter addressed to Mr. Charles M. Willis regarding
the sidewalk and ramp at the Brown house on Stetson Street Brown
was received. Mr. Willis asked if the Board would assent steps.
to the steps remaining where they are at the present time.
The Board felt that the best way for the matter to be
handled would be for Mr. Raymond to get in touch with Mr.
Willis, and do whatever he thought best. The Clerk was
instructed to so advise Mr. Raymond,

Commitment of water miscellaneous charges in the
amount of $12.00 was signed by the Board.
The Chairman asked the Board what it wished to do on
the Snow Removal Account. The Selectmen asked the Approp-
riation Committee to set aside $1500. in the Reserve Fund
for it, but that body voted to set aside only $1000.00. He

money for an appropriation of $500. , or what it wished to do. It was

Letter was received from the Board of Assessors ad-

Assessors. The total spent for expenses to date is $194.58, and the
total spent for transfer fees is $61.10. The Assessors
requested a transfer of $100.00. Mr. Potter moved that the
Appropriation Committee be requested to transfer $100.00
from the Reserve Fund to the Assessors - Expenses - Account,
provided s aid transfer does not interf ere with the additional '
500 .00 requested for Snow Removal. Mr. Locke seconded the
motion, and it was so voted.
The Clerk reported that the Retail Division of the
Use of Chamber of Commerce had requested the use of a conference
Conference room in Cary Hall on Friday evening, November 17th, at
Room. 6 :30 P.M. Mr. Potter moved that the request be granted.
Mr. Locke seconded the motion, and it was so voted.
The Chairman said that the State Dept. had requested
Use of that Estabrook Hall be reserved tentatively on Wednesday,
Estabrook November 22nd, for a talk on preventative cancer work.
Hall. Mr. Sarano moved that the use of the hall be granted free
of charge. Mr. Locke seconded the motion, and it was so
voted.
Mr. Sarano said that he had gone down to Grit Street
Mabey claim,to see Mrs . Mabey about the fruit trees she claims she
Trees. lost as a result of the Vine Brook work and which she says
were worth $300.00. Mr. Sarano said that the plum tree was
absolutely ho good, and he told her that he thought $100.00
would be a very liberal allowance for the other four trees.
The meeting adjourned at 4:55 P.M.
