HomeMy WebLinkAbout1939-04-20276 SELECTMENIS MEETING , April 20, 1939. A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, at 7;50 P. M. Chairman Giroux and Messrs. Potter, Locke, and Sarano were present. The Clerk was also present. The doors were opened so that those persons desiring to be present at the opening of the sealed proposals on Contract B, Vine Brook Drain and Sewer Project, might enter. Mr. Whitman of Metcalf & Eddy, Mr. Frank H. Street, PWA R.E.I., and Supt. of Public Works John W. Raymond, Jr. were present. At 8;00 P. M. the Chairman called the meeting to order and declared the time for submitting bids was closed. He read the Addenda, and said that after the reading of it, if there was no objection, he would assume that the bidders understood it and did not wish to withdraw their bids. The first bid read was that of Carlo Bianchi & Co., Inc., of Framingham, Mass., and a bid bond of $10POOO. was submitted. Mr. Raymond read the bid, and the total of Base Bid was $154,662.00; total with Deduction No. 1, $6470.00; Waltham St. 'Temporary bridge, $150.00; Total Deduction No. 20 19,842.00. The second bid read was that of the Vulcan Construct- ion Co., 193 Hanover St., Boston, Mass., and a bid bond in the amount of $8500.00 was submitted. Mr. Giroux read the bid, and the total of Base Bid was $155,673.00; total with Deduction No. 1 was 6350.00; Waltham St. Temporary bridge, $250.; Total Deduction for Deduction No. 2 was $17,402,00. The third bid read was that of J. T. Gaffey & Son of 19 James St., Medford, and a bid bond in the amount of $7500. was submitted. Mr. Locke read the bid, and the total of the Base Bid was $140,091; no bid on the Total with Deduction No., and no bid on the temporary bridge or Deduction No. 2. The fourth bid read was that of the Lee Construction Co. of 260 Park Sq. Building, Boston, and a bid bond in the amount of .$6000.00 was submitted. Mr. Sarano read the bid, and the total of the Base Bid was $108,639.50 (with pre -cast pipe), and $106,197.50 (with monolithic); ' total with Deduction No. 1, $3100.00; Waltham St. tempo- rary bridge'. $50.00, and Total with Deduction No. 2, $14,613.50. The fifth bid read was that of Frank T. Westcott,. of North Attleboro, Mass., and a bid bond in the amount of $10,000.00 was submitted. Mr. Raymond read the bid, , and the total of the Base Bid was $197,708.25; total with Deduction No. 1, $11,140; Temporary bridge, $400.00; and total with Deduction No. 2, $20,658.25. The sixth bid read was that of V. J. Grande Co., 100 Academy hili Road, Brighton, Mass., and a bid bond In the amount of 412,500.00 was submitted. Mr. Giroux read the bid, and the total of the Base Bid was $186, 880:50 (with monolithic) and $185,250.50 (with pre -cast pipe); total with deduction No. 1, 07,450.00; Waltham Street temporary bridge, $300.00, and total Deduction for Deduction No. 2 was $14,864.75. The seventh bid read was that of Peter Salvucci of 55 Pond Street, Waltham, and a certified check for $7,000.00 was submitted. Mr. Locke read the bid, and the Total for the Base Bid was $139,802.50; total with Deduction No. 1, $6,893.00; Waltham St. temporary bridge, 2400.002 and Total Deduction for Deduction No. 25, 17,932.00. The reading of the bids was finished at 9;13 P. M., I and the meeting was declared closed. A true record, Attest: 1 0 Clerk 277
