HomeMy WebLinkAbout1939-02-09172 SELECTMEN'S MEETING. FEB. 90 1939. A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, at 9:00 P.M. Chairman Giroux and Messrs. Potter and Rowse were prevent. The Board met with the Appropriation Committee and dis- cussed at great length the W.P.A. program and the salary question. On motion of Mr. Potter, seconded by Mr. Rowse, the following salary adjustments are to be recommended to the Town Meeting: Clayton F. Beach - $32.50 per week. John T. Cosgrove - 3120.00 per year John F. O'Connor - 32.00 per week Cidaliza Souza - 13.00 Joseph A. Ross - 48.00 " n Salaries. Ruth Hayes - 14.00 John J. Garrity - 42.00 Doris Ohlson - 15.00 n " George V. Morse - 32.00 " n Muriel Edkins - 15.00 " tt Mrs. Mary Casey - 15.00 n n Eleanor M. Lowe - 34.00 n n Elinor Moakley - 24.00 n rr James H. Russell - 3200.00 " year Request was received for the certification of the Cert. of character of George E. Streeter, 83 Cary Ave., one of the character. incorporators of The Temple Choir of Lowell, Mass., Inc. Upon motion of Mr. Potter, seconded by Mr. Rowse, it was voted to sign the statement of character. Upon motion of Mr. Potter, seconded by Mr. Rowse, it was voted to grant the following licenses: Licenses. Fair Oaks Dairy - Past. of Milk License Lowland Dairy Farm Swenson Brothers Upon motion of Mr. Potter, seconded by Mr. Rowse, it Abatement. was voted to abate the water bill on the Aldrich property in the amount of $3.44, there being no funds available to pay this bill. The Chairman read a letter received from Theodore N. Chap. 500 Waddell, Director of Accounts, relative to funds provided by Chapter 500 of the Acts'of 1958. The letter stated that under Chapter 2, Acts of 1939, cities and towns may at once arrange to use the balances of funds provided by Chapter 500, subject to an appropriation by the Town Meeting. Chapter 2 of the Acts of 1939 authorized the town to use the funds for construction, reconstruction, 1 n J 173 maintenance and repair of local roads, and further stated that the funds might be used for Chapter 90 or Vd.P.A* highways if the town so voted. The Board reconsidered its previous vote to charge incidental expenses of the Community Day held on January Community 22 to the Public Welfare Aid and Expenses account, and Day voted to charge the expense, totaling 18.50, to the Expenses.
