SPECIAL MEETING
JUNE 18, 1934
A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in the
Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, at 7:30 P.M. Mr. J'oha:
E. Gilereast and Mrs. Helen C. Whittemore, Clerk, were present,
The hearing was declared open on the Boards notice of in-
tention to layout Gleason Road from Simonds Road to Fuller Read
a distance of approxdmately 617 feet.
Those present were Mr. names little, Mr. A. C. Mortimer and;
Mr. Frederick R. Stevens.
Mr. Mortimer stated that he was instrumental in securing the
signatures for the acdeptance of this street. Although he lived
on Dexter Road•, he desired to have this street accepted so that
there would be drainage in the street. He presented a petition
signed by 15 out of the 18 owners on the street and this representee)
more than 75 per cent of the owners of property.
A telephone call was received from Mr. Loren J. Farrar stating
that he did not object particularly to the road being built, but
he did not want to have it built at this time inasmuch as he was
not earning very much money and could not afford to pay the assessment.
Mr. Mortimer inquired whether or not the construction of the
street would be the same as Harding and Simonds Road. It appeared
to him from the high cost of the estimate of $4950. for construc-
ting the street that the construction would be the same as the
Dexter Road construction which was a higher price, and he wanted
every consideration possible to lower the cost of constructing
the street.
Mr. Little stated that he had talked with the Town Engineer
and was informed by him that the estimate given was in all probability
very high.
Mr. Mortimer asked that if it was possible to reduce the cost,
that the Selectmen'be requested to do no. It was agreed that the
information would be sent to him as to whether or not the construo-
tion would be the same as Dexter Road or the some as H arding and
Simonds Roads.
Mr. Little asked that the work be done on this street the
same time that it was done on the other streets that are to be
built in this vicinity.
No further objection was presented, and the hearing was
declared closed.
A true record, Attest:
Clerk.
