Notice of a meeting of the Worcester County Selectmen's Meeting Association Meeting to be held on February 14th was received. Petition was received from the residents of Waltham St. I Request from Allen Street to Blossom Street requesting that a study for light- of the lighting in that section be made. Ing study The Supt. of Public Works presented a sketch showing SELEC711FNIS 14EFTING ' FEBRUARY 133, 1934. A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, on Tuesday February 13, 19,714 at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Trask, Gilcreast, Ferguson, O'Connell and Lyons were present. The Clerk was also present. Mr. Walter E. Jones and Mr. Hrones of Winter Street came before the Board and requested that a water main be Water, extended in Winter Street from the present dead end in a Winter fit, northeasterly direction for a distance of approximately 300 feet. They explained at present the pipe runs across Mr. Jones and Mr. Hrones land from P pipe in the cellar at Mr. East- man's house. Mr. Eastman has threatened to shut off the water many times and this is what they are afraid of; there- fore they would ll' -e to have a pipe extended in the highway. The Chairman informed him that the approximate cost would be about 90� a foot. The Board agreed to insert an article in the Warrant calling for the installation of a water main provided the street layout was made on that part of Winter Street. Application was received from Harry J. Huntley Co. of ' Waltham for permission to maintain a one car garage of brick Garage, veneer construction at 24 (lot) Hancock Street. Huntley Representatives of the Huntley Co. were present and pre- sented plan which appeared to be satisfactory. No persons ap•,eared to object, and it was voted to grant the permit sub- ject to the approval of the Bluilding Inspector. It was voted to request the Town Treasurer to obtAin Steel Stand -bids on loan of 355000 at the rate of 32o to finance the pipe construction of the steel standpipe. This was refer- red to Mr. Gilcreast for his attention. Letter was received from the Boar=d of Selectmen of the Town of Belmont in which it was stated that they would be represented at the County Commissioners hearing on Feb. 20, at 10 A.M. at which time the hearing; will be held on the construction of Pleasant & Watertown Streets in Lexing- ton, and Belmont will endeavor to have the extension into Belmont consturcted also, under Chapter 90, General Laws. The Chairman reported that the Town Engineer found that the Bow Street sewer could be connected on the trunk line sewer in East Lexington without further assessment , and it was therefore voted to insert an article in the Town IV"rrant to install a sevier in Cliffe Avenue, Bow St. and Theresa Avenue, provided it could be done without fur- ther assessment. 519 Pleasant St.hearing Sewer, Cliffe Ave. Bids were received for the work at the house of Michael Bids,re- E. It was left with the Chairman to check up on the number of rolls of paper to be used so the definite cost could be figured. Application for insurance to be placed for the town was receiv-d from Marguerite E. Walsh of 1508 Mass. Avenue. It was decided to ac'Tnowled-;e the application and place the same on file. It was voted to lay upon the t-b7e the placement of the insurance on the Shelales House located on the Cemetery Property. Edward W. Taylor, Chie' of the Fire Dept. came before the Board and presented drawings of a proposed fire station which he had made, shoriing a three door fire station. In reference to the location on the Phelps property on Bedford St. proposed b7'r the Board for a fire station, Mr. Taylor agreed that this location was satisfactory and that the turn at Elm Avenue and Bedford Street could be made by the fire apparatus. It was suggested that Mr. Ferguson take the drawings ' and make a study and recommend to the Board any changes he may offer. The Application for Old Age Assistance of Stephen Old Age Jones. who lives with his daughter, Mrs. Fred Burgess during Assistance the winter, was turned over to Mr. Gilcreast for his atten- tion. Gas Leaks D The Supt, of Public Works was requested to secaure'in- lormation relative to the complaint of Mr. Tinkham of Cool- idge Avenue of gas leaks. Mr. Mitchell came before the Board and reported that he received application from Anthony Mercadante of Lowell Street for assistance. Mr. Mercadante owns a house on Raw- son Avenue in which a recipient of old age assistance lives Mercadante and formerly one of the aid cases lived there and aid was case held out to be paid to Mr. Mercadante for r.,ent. He has ten children and he has registered a truck this ,year. He has first mortgage on house in which he lives of $3500 and second mortgage of $2700 and on the Rawson house of $2700 and second mortgage of $500. The Clerk reported that the census worker on C.W.A. reported that this fami=ly had noth- ing to eat. The son did work on the C.'�d.A. but not being mentally well, he could not wor'-. Mr. Mitchell stated that he would give food in this case and that the father could work for the food. Application was received from Robert E. Durkin who has been living with his wife's folks, Mrs. Chas. Savage, on Manley Court, and has now to secure a home for himself, Aid,Durkin has four small children. The family have been placed with family his fam'ly out of town. The man was on the C.INT.A. Mr. Mitchell was requested to inform him that he should apply for aid where his family are now living. It was voted to give notice of intention of laying out Gleason Road from Simonds Road to Williams Road a distance of ap-roxin-ately 658 feet. It ":,,as voted to give notice -of intention to lay out Blake Road from Simonds Rd. to Eaton Rd, approximately 210 ft.
