SELECTMEN'S MEETING
FEB.23, 1932 .
A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held
in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, at 7 :,30
P.M. Messrs . Trask, Custance, Blake, and Shannon were
present. The Supt. of Public Works aid the Clerk were
also present.
Letter was received from Mr. B. B. Howard in whish
he stated that the E. E. I. Co. would install a new pole
Lights. near Martin's DI3tag *St+bibe opposite the Lexington Theater
with a 1000 candle power light on it without any charge
to the Town%
The Board believed this .would give sufficient light
to eliminate the danger to the Police Officer latanding at
this crossing.
The Board voted to grant the use of the Cary Memorial
Hall to the Lexington .G&1,l Scouts on April 9th for an
entertainment which is for the benefit of the Scouts aid
Unemployment Relief.
Cary Memorial
Hall. The Board voted to grant the Boy Scouts the use-of
the Cary Memorial Hall on Feb. 26th and Feb. 27th at the
rate of X10. each night .
Sewer Bid of $636.00 was received from the Mercury Printing
Company on the printing of the Metcalf and Eddy sewer
, port. report .
The Board felt that this was rather exceesive and
decided not to print the report.
Letter was received from Mrs. Edith C. Deering in
regard to placing a stop sign at Burlington and North
Stop Hancock Streets. The Board felt that Mrs .Deering should
Sign. be informed that the Board in making their studies were
trying to eliminate the danger at this corner.
Letter was received from Frank P. Cutter suggesting
that the Board appoint unemployed persons when they
appoint election officers .
Election The Chairman was directed to reply to Mr. Cutter
stating that the law required that the election officers
Officers . be appointed in August, and this having been done unless
they received a resignation they could not make any
appointments from the unemployed.
Notice of a hearing to be held February 24th at 10
A. M. on House Bill #567 and Senate Bill #161 relative to
Mosquito Control was received.
Letter was received from the Central New England
Tuberculotis Sanatorium in regard to the employment of arrested cases
cases . of Tuberculosis . It ivas- decided to make a cheek-up
of the Tuberculosis cates'vrto Aee if there were any persons
who might take advantage of this.

Letter was received from the Holland Bros . Bus Lines
Inc. of W burn, Mass. requesting permission to carry Bus
passengers for hire from the Lexington Common to the Lexington- Ltne.
' Woburn line.
The Board voted to deny the petition.
In regard to the article in the Town Warrant to transfer
$20,000. from the Excess and Deficiency Account, Mr. Trask
reported that this anoun.t had been reduced to $10,000.
Letter was received from the Town Counsel in which he
included and article for the Warrant on the assessment Warrant
of betterments for water mains . This was to amend the
flys-laws .
It was decided to insert this article in the Warrant
for the Annual Town Meeting.
Town Counsel also called attention to the t echnictal
difficulties in accepting the Act allowing funds to be
paid out on account of the Middlesex County Hospital . He
called attention to the fact that the Act does not take
effect until March 10 and the Towns are called upon to
act under it before March 5th.
The Chairman inquired whether or not it would be an
opportune time to start Oakland Street sewer construction. Sewer.
Mr. Custance believed there was now too much frost
in the ground and it would cost too much money to start
the work at the present time.
Circular from the Pan-American Union setting aside April 14th
as Pan-American Day was received.
The weekly report of the Supt. of Public Works was
received.
Mr. William Aquaro of Rawson Avenue came before the
Board to complain of the snow plow service received.
He called attention to the vote of the Town some time
ago w here the Town voted to have snow plow service.
Mr. Scamnan explained that the snow plows would be
broken if they went up on this street at the end because Snow
there were so many rocks, this street being unaccepted.
Mr. Aquaro felt that the horse drawn plow should be put
up there . He called attention to the fact that recently
he was supposed to go the hospital with his daughter
at 9 A. M. o'clock and he did not get out of his house until
9 :30 as he had to dig his way through the snow. He
complained of having called this matter to the attention
of the Supt . of Streets mazy times and getting no
satisfaction.
It was voted to sign a Warrant for a Town Meeting
to be held on March 4th this to include an article requesting
funds for the payment of the Town' s share of the expense
of the Middlesex County Tuberculosis Hospital.

The Board discussed the matter of construction of
Concord Avenue and it was reported that Belmont recorded
themselves against construction of this street before the
Concord Committee on Metropolitan Affairs . Senator Warren was
Avenue. in favor of the proposition provided the Town did not
pay more than 25 per cent of the cost of construction.
Mr. Custance reported not having been able to make
arrangements with Mr. Cox on Massachusetts Avenue for
Cox the transfer of land . He stated, however, that Mr. Cox r
nephew has now come to live with him add he intends to
matter. see him within a few days .
It was voted to establish a-bus stop on Waltham
Street in front of the William Hunt double house. The
Bus Stop. Supt. of Public Works was requested to paint the sidewalk
and put up a sign indicating a bus stop.
The Supt. of. Public Works reported that it was
necessary to place a guard rail on Concord Avenue and
Guard rail. Lowell Street. He was therefor authorized to install
approximately 550 feet of guard rail on these locations.
