SELECTMEN 'S MEETING
March 4, 1930.
A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen
was held at the Selectmen's Room, Town Office
Building, at 7 30 P.M. The Annual Election
having been held and Mr. Robert P. Trask having
been elected for the new member to take the
place of Mr. Francis Chamberlain, and Mr.
Theodore A. Custance having been re-elected
both for the term of three years, the Board met
this evenin?. It was decided not to organize
until Mr. Albert H. Burnham who is in the South.
returns . Messrs. Custance, Blake, Shannon and Trask
were present. The Supt. of Public and the Clerk
were also present .
Petition was received from the residents of Police
Manor Cr^scent, North Lexington, asking that they Protection
be given Police protection. Lexington
It was decided to refer the matter to the Manor.
Supt. of Public Works to investigate and advise whether
or not it was necessary to appoint an additional
policeman for duty in that section of the Town.
Letter was received from Fletcher W. Taft
in which he stated that he expected to be out F.W.Taft
of Town about the time when he would have to re appointment
work on the April 19th Committee, and he did to April 19th
not feel that he should accept the appointment; Committee.
however, he would delay about giving his
resignation until such time as he was definitely
sure whether he would be in Town or not.
Letter was received from James Stuart Smith Letter from
in which he stated that he had no objection of J.S.Smith

he would take the matter up with the Board of

and it was settled for the immediate present .
Water rate coitmitment in the amount of Water
$4535.24 was signed by the Board. Commitment.
State Aid return in the amount of $28. State Aid

Estimate was received from the Supt. of
the Water and Sewer Department fob the laying

of water pipe from the Arlington line to the
Lexington-Waltham. He estimated the cost as

election officers who served at the opening of
the polls at 6 o'clock in the morning had to
continue their work until 5:30 or 5 :45 the next
Election morning.

strenuous day, the Board voted to pay double
time to those who served for that length of time,
and to adjust the pay for the other persons who
put in more than one day.
It was voted to establish as permanent pay for
the election officers the following:

Supt. of Public Works .
For the week ending March 1, 1930.
Supt. 's Report.
Highway Deoartment.
The warm weather and rain last week caused
a great amount of trouble with the surfaced streets,
making it necessary to use about 180 cubic yards of
sand and gravel to "ill and level places where
the frost had pzshed up the surface.
In all the streets where crushed gravel
had been spread to a sufficient depth or on the
penetrated macadam oonstructitan, no trouble of
thiW;k.tnd was found.

The work of cutting back and widening
Hill Street was continued .and a large
amount of ledge uncovered and drilled.
Next week the department will take care
of the regular maintenance and continue the
work on Hill Street.
Moth and Shade Tree Department.
This department continued to treat the
moth nests with creosote in the Town Woods .
It also trimmed and removed trees in
Hill Street .
Next week the Department will be occupied
with treating the moth nests with creosote.
Park Department.
The regular maintenance work was taken care
of during the past week and will be attended to
next week.
Water and Sewer Department
Work was started on the installation of a
hydrant for the Breck Robinson Nursery and this
' work will be paid for by this firm.
A 10" main has been laid across Mass.
Avenue at Wood Street.
Regular maintenance work has occupied the
forces of the department the balance of the week.
Regular maintenance work is planned for the
week ending March 15, 1930.

Figured 1930 assessment charge to be $5.026.
Work on final construction plans .

Work on final plans of extensions .
Miscellaneous .
Figured and wrote description of taking
at Woburn and Vine Streets along B. & M. Railroad.
Work on Lincoln Street Topo plan.
`Work on Cedar Street plan.
Topo alone Pleasant and Watertown Streets , (Easterly
side)
Design for wall at Baker Avenue.
