Presentations
Sign for Powers Music School, 109 Massachusetts Avenue
Erin Cavazos, the Managing Director of the school, presented the proposed single-sided sign to be 4'high
x 3'-8' wide, set back 6'from the fence that surrounds the school property Two 2x4 posts with ball finials
supported the sign, painted white with carved hunter green letters. The sign will not be lit.
DAC recommended the following:
• Change the orientation of the sign by placing it perpendicular to Massachusetts Ave.for better
visibility
• Make the sign double-sided
• Use a single post with an arm to support the sign, and place the sign higher The post would be
located on the house side. A vertical composition of the sign may work better in this case. The sign
visibility will be improved by lifting it above the fence, bottom of the sign at approx. 3.5' —4' top of
the sign at approx. 6'
• Move the sign close to the fence, approx. 1 foot away Place the sign close to the corner of the
property aligned with a beginning of a curved fence section.
The sign is currently scheduled for March 27th ZBA meeting. Steve proposed that Erin should either
postpone the ZBA hearing and come back to the next DAC meeting, or re-submit the modifications to the
sign for the second DAC review via e-mail to get a quick turn-around before the hearing on the 27th
Miscellaneous
DAC provided a consultation for two new dog training-related businesses that are now located in the
Sherwin-Williams building behind the fire station off Bedford Street.
DAC has made the following recommendations based on the given information:
• Design a projecting sign (supported by brackets or hanging-off a bracket)to be installed
perpendicular to the building elevation that faces the fire station's parking lot. This way the sign will
be visible from both bike path and Bedford Street
• Add an awning with company name/logo over the entrance on the Sherwin-William's side of the
building
The next DAC meeting is on Tuesday, April 1st 2003, at 8:00 PM in Room 111
