National Heritage Museum or Scottish Rite Masonic Museum and Libra y: Representatives:John Ott, Executive Director and Don Tellalian, architect for original building and current project Macomb Greer was the designer for the new proposed signage and logo. Mr. Ott stated that the purpose of the following proposals is to gain visibility on the street as well as to create a warm welcome to the community and visitors. Lettering on existing entrance wall: Proposed 8" high lettering would state the name of the building and 4.5"high lettering would state the order of the Masonic lodge on each wall as it is now. All lettering would be in shinny chrome. It would be centered on the curving part of the wall. The logo is chrome, 24"square diamond and cut open around the NH logo. The logo would be at the right of each block of letters. o Concern about consistency throughout their new signage project was raised. Otherwise we agreed to the new look. Sign to be lit from the ground. Lighting fixtures were not shown. o Concern about consistency in materials with the double headed eagle in cast bronze mounted on each column with the chrome lettering was raised. We agreed with proposal as itis an important and recognizable icon to the masons. o Suggested that the logo not have its point at the top of the wall, rather have it in the brick field. o Plantings will continue to be maintained by the garden club. Proposed (4) Banners along entrance drive: o The banners are designed using the logo and angular patterns in strong colors. Each banner uses the same design elements and range of colors only in different arrangements. o They will not be lit o Purpose of banners is to welcome visitors to the complex. o The poles are dark bronze and will be set 4' back from curb. The poles will be placed in sleeves so that they can be removed. o We approved the proposal. Proposed sign and footpath along Mass.Avenue consists of a 5' break in the wall along Mass.Ave., a brick pad with a sitting wall with a granite top and a 14'pole with sign attached. The sign would be a bronze finished metal sign with chrome lettering and logo that would adhered to the sign. The logo would have red and blue in the cut out parts to add color. There would be a path that leads up to the museum that will meet the ADA codes. They want to move the crosswalk so that it is in relation with a path in Tower Park creating access between the two. o Suggested that the path be more natural without the brick pad. o Suggested that the sign should be at pedestrian scale or not used at all. o Suggested that the logo be only chrome without the red and blue accents. o The HDC tabled this proposal. Box sign to replace the sign on the hill in addition to the event sign. The proposal unites the two in a sign 22'long by 5' high with a base of Chelmsford granite(pink/gray). While the sign will appear during the day like the current sign on the hill, as it is made of bronze with white letters and at night it will be internally illuminated so that letters stand out The events sign is on the same sign. o The HDC has approved the sign o The DAC doesn't support internally illuminated signs in the town. 2. Special Permit for Boston Sports Club at 475 Bedford St. Their corporate sign is gray aluminum base with a plexiglas engraved sign suspended away from a background board of red. Florescent lights are above and below the sign. The sign is to be placed in a proposed triangle at the entrance off Bedford St o Our basic concern is visibility at this busy area. We request a scale drawing detailing placement of sign and sight lines. What is the size of the sign in relation to the size of the island? 3. Special Permit Transform at 29 Hartwell Avenue. The sign is aluminum face with painted aluminum black letters, pin mounted and externally lit The sign is 5'tall by 6'-8"long. The sign has a free modem form. The exit sign is 4'tall of the same materials and is not illuminated. o We like the design of the sign as it will fit well with the new exterior design of the building. o Request materials of both bases, plan view of exit sign and exterior lighting design of main sign. o Comments on exit sign are that it is too tall and that the legs look awkward. Next meeting February 4th at 8p.m.
