The Meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by Steve Hurley Approval of Minutes The minutes of the previous meeting were not available so no action was taken for approval. Issues discussed and decisions reached were as follows: 1 illusions Hair Design and Tranquilities— 231 Bedford Street Gale Gallant Ms. Gallant from Illusions Hair Design and Tranquilities made a presentation seeking approval for a new sign on Bedford Street. Ms. Gallant has consulted with a sign consultant and was now seeking assistance from DAC. At a previous meeting with DAC, concern was expressed that the proposed sign revisions gave the appearance of two signs and that there was too much information on the sign. Ms. Gallant presented some new sketches which indicated that the problem with the multiple sign appearance was corrected. However, the DAC still found the overall sign to be unacceptable. Ms Gallant agreed to look into the following changes: • Eliminate the space between"Hair Design" and "Tranquilities' which will further enhance the single sign appearance. • Reduce the size of the ampersand (&) symbol • Reduce the size of the words "skin, nails, message, tanning" and use a different (vertical) font. • The word`walk-ins" will be hyphenated and reduced in size Ms. Gallant also agreed to provide a drawing showing dimensions, colors, font size and style. It was agreed that Ms. Gallant will meet again with DAC at the next scheduled meeting on November 5, 2002 and that she will be first on the agenda at 8:00 p.m. This will allow her to be prepared for her meeting scheduled with the Board of Appeals on November 14th i 2. DAC assistance to the Permanent Building Committee for the School Designs. Rich Sperandio and Carl Oldenberg updated the DAC on the status of the Harrington and Fiske school designs. It was noted that the PBC has been very pleased with the assistance provided by the DAC and that the DAC's significant participation at some recent meetings has been noted and appreciated. Rich Sperandio, who is also a School Committee representative to the PBC, brought a copy of the Design Development drawings for the Harrington school to the meeting. A cursory review of these documents was made and some comments noted regarding additional information required by the DAC to continue their involvement in the approval process. Rich Sperandio will ensure that these comments are provided to the Architect. In addition the DAC was advised that the Fiske school design process was being kicked-off and will follow a very fast track, The DAC involvement is critical since the Fiske facility represents one of the more visual areas of the community along Adams Street. The DAC will need to be available soon and be prepared to respond on short notice to the very aggressive schedule developed by the School Committee,PBC and the Architect, The DAC indicated its willingness to support the PBC's requirements. Adjournment The Meeting was adjourned at 9:50 p.m. Scribe: Richard Sperandio The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday November 5, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. L
