HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-03-05-DAC-min.pdf Design Advisory Committee Minutes of March 5, 2002 Meeting Present: Carl Oldenburg, Chair pro tem; John Frey, Sally Harknss, Betsy Whitman, Scribe; John Davies, Planning Board Liaison Meeting was called to order at 8.10 by Carl Oldenburg. The minutes of the February 5, 2002 meeting were approved as read. 1. School Review This was not discussed as Rich Sperandio was not present. 2. Grace Chapel- Additions/Alterations Representing Grace Chapel were Bob Galloway, architect, of the firm Jackson, Galloway and Collier, and Karen Fitzgerald, landscape architect, of Waterfield Design. a. Buffer planting Under story trees will be cherries and crabs. Street trees along Worthen Road will be red maples. Bob showed, by a walk-down Worthen Road by slides,the appearance. At the entrance another tree from the plan will be eliminated to open up the approach. b. Parking lot Lindens c. Interior courtyard River birch for columnar effect. Existing shrubs will be kept. d. Around building At the Vee, they had proposed rhododendrons. After discussion back and forth, it was decided that the rhododendrons would be desirable to soften the view of the ground level windows. They would be kept away enough to allow light to enter the interior. It was decided that the river birch would be handsome near the Vee. e. General They are applying for a building permit next week. In 4-6 weeks they will go out for bid for subcontractors. They hope to be ready to begin by May 1 They spoke of 20"poles for light with no spill. There will be soffit lights in the arcade. They will come back to us for lighting and signage Carl will send a letter to the ZBA with DAC approval of the landscaping. 3. St. Paul's on Lowell Street. This is a request to install a GPS antenna out of sight. Some section of the steeple will be replaced by fiberglass. This was approved. 4. 40-B Housing This is the 544 Lowell Street proposal that originally called for 48 units. DAC should weigh in on planting, after the density has been decided.
