• Stop and Shop - Loading Dock
Stop and Shop is proposing to enclose an existing loading dock off
Worthen Road and to install a roof over it. A letter from attorney Tom Fenn
accompanied the submitted plan. By enclosing the loading dock, Stop and Shop
will increase the building square footage by 404 S.F and will have to seek an
approval from the Board of Appeals.
DAC felt that not enough information was submitted for the review Only
plans were included. No information was provided for elevations, pictures,
details, and changes in lighting. Doors and stairs were not shown on the plan. It
was not clear if the proposed changes have to be approved by HDC in addition to
the Board of Appeals hearing.
DAC requested additional information.
7 Harrington Road
Betty Edison informed the Committee that two minor accidents occurred at the
intersection of recently opened Harrington Road and Bedford Street. Two light poles
1-
were removed along Bedford Street. Steve Hurley mentioned that the Harrington
Road improvement project was never completed as planned. Not all the shoulders r
of the "experimental" pavement were completed. The edge of the pavement lacks
paint and the light deflectors installed along the curb do not work.
Setting DAC's Goals for this Year
Steven Hurley proposed that DAC would take on a new design project this year He
proposed to work on making improvements to the Battle Green. Presently there are
too many various signs around the Green. Light fixtures, walks and an island in front
of the Minuteman statue could also be improved. Recommendations for new trees
and shrubs planting on the Green were proposed as a result of the study that had
been completed in the past.
Betty Edison mentioned that there is no place on the Green where the visitors could
learn about its history She suggested that a memorial plaque with a description of
the historic events could be designed and installed.
Another goal for the DAC this year will be to work closer with the HDC. Steve Hurley
will talk to the HDC members and the Town Hall about improving current review
process. All relevant submittals should be reviewed by DAC first, prior to the HDC
review
Sally Harkness suggested focusing on preserving the character of Lexington
neighborhoods and protecting it against the 'monster" houses.
Garden Club Representative
Nancy Hubert from the Garden Club proposed to have a permanent representative of
the Club on the DAC. Betty Edison suggested that the Garden Club could write a
letter to the Selectmen asking to support this idea. Nancy Hubert indicated that the
Garden Club could assist DAC in a variety of ways.
The next DAC meeting is on Tuesday, April 4th at 8:00 PM.
