LEXINGTON DESIGN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
April 6, 1999
Present: Steve Hurl4(Chairman). Betsy Whitman. Carl Oldenburg, John Frey,
Olga VSronina, Br uuccVV Creager, Barbara Hulsiier and Eva Heney reporter form
the Minute-Man
Minutes approved with this correction: the word emulsion should be mullion and
a reminder to add the date of the next meeting at the end of the minutes.
Depot Square: not out to bid yet
Cary Hall: This is on Rick's list to identify funding sources.
Minute-Man. Harrington Road and Tour Bus. DAC has put together a proposal
to the Selectmen as discussed in previous meetings. The Selectmen have
approved this proposal. Peter Chlapin has suggested to use stamped bituminous
concmjand bituminous curb around the Minute-Man statue and the,new island
as a t run.
Center Parking Improvements: In an effort to correct handicap accessibility at
the Craft Building there will he a sloped brick sidewalk and curbing added along
the north side of the building.
Police Booth: Presenter, Paul Jenkins. showed us a drawing much like the new
parking booth at the Mariam St. Parking Lot which was not preferred. A photo
of a small 8 sided building in Portsmouth, N. H. was well received with these
suggestions; reduce footprint (5' overall), center on Waltham St., design island as
a whole with the building included and move obstructing obstacles from the view
of the building. The building material should be wood.
Re AA
33 Marren Street: In this preliminary discussion of the two schemes that we
were shown we preferred the first scheme that incorporated the look of the
original budding. We encouraged them to continued to use the motifs of the
original building in the new additions.
Lowell and Woburn St: The redesign of Marren Sq. was the inspiration to
redesign this group of buildings and parking area. The building proposal is to
add two towers on each end of the buildings with an extension to the Woburn
end. The building skin is to be an applied stucco look in beige, cream and hunter
green. There are also to be pediments added over the doors with;stain glass in
the center of the pediments. We ask to see the color scheme. The landscaping in
r
the rear is a proposed planting of purple leaf crab apples. The parking area will
have an additional two trees. Barberry is to surround the parking are*at the
edge along with the existing trees. We suggested to reduce the curb cuts to one
on Lowell Si. allowing for the planting of more trees.
927 & 945 Waltham St. Nicholas Cannalonga would like to build a larger farm
stand at the present site. We liked the proposed building and the surrounding
landscape suggestions. He is just starting the process to see if this will work for
his family business.
NEXT MEETING MAY 4, 1999 AT 8 P.M.
