Approval of Minutes of May 12, 1998 2. First Circle Leamina Center. 80 Made Street.Route 2A—New siert.Marcie Lee and Karina Marcotty presented an elevation of the proposed sign and photographs of the existing sign. New sign is intended to be located in the same place as existing sign. Proposed sign is 3'x3' supported by two posts. Existing sign is 2'x3'and supported by a single post. Posts and sign will be made of wood. No lighting is planned at this time. Recommendations: Proposed sign was approved as presented. 3. Christmas City Sign(Seacons 4) 1265 Macs Ave. —New sten:New sign to be added to existing sign during Christmas season. New sign would be made of wood,painted red and attached to top of existing sign. did Recommendation: L trh m The sign was not app"Mired because I)it is out of scale(too large)with the existing sign,and 2)it is an `advertisement' which according to the Zoning By-laws is not allowed. 4. Pet Mania Sim.Mass Ave. New sim: In December 1997 the HDC recommended Pet Mania hang a sign from the porch of the building. Currently,the HDC is suggesting Pet Mania hang a sign projecting from the bay window Recommendation: A freestanding sign in the front lawn,.perpendicular to Mass.Ave. is the DAC's first choice. This is consistent with the DAC's recommendation last fall. Second choice is to hang sign from the right or left casing of the bay window Least desirable,as shown in the owner's photo,is to mount the sign above and projecting from the bay window 5. Cable TV Antennas: When reviewing proposed CATV antenna installations,the DAC must consider all the equipment that is involved. A draft copy of the application for CATV antennas will be distributed to DAC members for review Recommendation:None 6. Owner of commercial property at NE corner of Mtritt Rd. and Waltham Street seeks a variance allowing reduction in parking spaces required if a Seattle s Best coffee shop becomes a tenant. Member Steve Hurley explained to the Committee the following: a. Presently there are 38 parking spaces b. If Seattle's Best becomes a tenant,43 parking spaces will be required. Other tenant uses require fewer spaces. c. With improvements currently ongoing to this property,no more than 38 parking spaces will fit. Steve Hurley will distribute plans to members of the DAC for review Recommendation:None at thus time 7 Stop&Shoo.36 Bedford Rd. narking lot layout: Upon review of this set of plans,no changes were detected from previous plans submitted for DAC review Recommendation: a. Western curb cut is unacceptable. One central entrance as previously proposed by the DAC is still recommended as the best solution for access to and from the parking lot. b. Pedestrian circulation at vestibule(4' to columns)is very narrow and should be increased. John Frey to make recommendations to Board of Appeals. 8. 13y unanimous vote,beginning with the July meeting, The DAC will meet on the first Tuesday of each month. 9 By unanimous vote,Associate Members of the DAC arc permitted to vote on issues before the Committee in order to meet a quorum. 10. Regarding the possible loss of one or two members of the DAC,John Frey suggested that he step clown as chairperson so that the two associate members can become members. John also suggested that he become an associate member and that a new chairperson be elected. Other members of the committee urged John to remain as chairperson of the DAC. No action was taken. 11. The meeting concluded tsith a discussion regarding what DAC members feel is a lack of respect accorded the DAC ( C
