Minutes of April 14,1998
Present: John Frey, Chair, Steven Hurley, Barbara Hulsizer, Jon
Longley, Assoc., Joshua Hassol, Assoc., Bob Stigburg, Assoc., Betty
Eddison, Selectman
Approval of Minutes of March 10, 1998 with these corrections: Betty
Eddison was present, Jon Longley, spelling correction, #2 next to last
line should read "should" not "will" and 3rd item down change to
"off" not "of" , Bill Pavia instead of Bill Ravia in item #3.
1 Artisans Way OPEN sign, Liz Stevnson, owner requested our
assistance in redesigning the shop's OPEN sign as she wants to
reapply to the HDC for sign approval. The shop is open 7 days a
week all year The current OPEN sign hasn't met with approval from
the HDC and she has recently received a ticket for using the sign. S he
has notice a marked decline in her business since the sign has n o t
been in use.
Recommendation
size: 36" long by 8" wide
colors: green background with gold letters with white trim to
match Artisans Way sign
eliminate name from group sign board, allowing her to use
another sign
Steve Hurley volunteered to help with the design process
come back with new design to get our recommendation
183 Bedford St. new dentist Dr DeRegis taking over Dr Kaplan's
office. His sign size 36" x 221/2" we approved.
Recommendation
use a sturdier outrigger and paint post and outrigger
sign could be dark green with gold lettering
rethink layout of lettering
keep design within the same high standard as his neighbors
come back with redesign
New Associate to the DAC: Joshua Hassol, is a one year resident of
Lexington with a Ph.D in Urban Planning. His special interest is in
land use related to transportation and pedestrian planning.

Sheraton Sign. reviewed draft of John's letter to the Board of
Appeals in which John said that we normally don't approve of
internally illuminated signage but in this case we did as they would
be individually mounted. As it turns out this can't be done so that
the "box" will have to be used on the outside of the building to secure
the letters.
Gulf Station on Bedford St. requesting a new canopy and landscaping.
John has requested.

Seattle's Best, Marrett Rd. (at Glen Eric's) sign doesn't need approval
by the Board of Appeals as the property is held in a "by rights"

Salon Sign on Meriam St. was approved by the HDC
