1. Approval of minutes of Nov 11, 1997 with the spelling "Jon" Longley (Betty noted
later typo-"liaison" )
Minutes of Dec.9 1997,were approved with these changes: 1.omit double first name for
Betsy, 2. replace "emulsions" by "mullions"
Minutes of Jan. 13, 1998were approved with the spelling correction to "liaison" and to
"Accetta"
2. Suburban Floor and Kitchens:Louis and Pat Accetta came in hoping to put sign
on brick above sign panel and lettering on awning. The discussion led to the following
agreement, with the help of John's perspective sketch: the sign would be in three sections in
the horizontal sign panel. On#1. logo and "Suburban Floor", on#2: "Kitchens" on angled
corner, on#3: "&Baths" The awning can be 2" or 3" higher than proposed,as sign panel
will be slightly reduced in height because of single line of lettering. The awning will project
about 3'0" The only signage on the awning will be "121" over the door. The Accettas are
planning a mahogany sign with "vee"carved letters on dark green.
Steve Hurley commented that the HDC would like landlords to come in with petitioners.
3. 181 Spring Street site: Boston Properties building. There will be a permanent
conservation easement. The owners have agreed "to put in as much landscape as needed."
They have no intention of adding signage. They will use Best Traffic Management. The
DAC suggests trees at bottom of armored slope and some on slope itself in a random
fashion. DAC concerned about"mean" staircase along the side of building which plunges
down in one flight.DAC suggests that there are better ways for the design\of stairs for the
site.
