Discussion: 1. 181 Spring Street: Boston Properties is proposing a new 3-story speculative office building with 2 levels of parking underneath, as part of a larger development which includes structures already built. The proposed building may already be permitted as part of the larger master plan. It was suggested that the South Lexington Association be notified of the project, even if it is already permitted. Also, the Transportation Advisory Committee should be made aware of the project. No information on signage was presented. DAC reviewed and discussed the plans submitted. Most discussion was regarding landscape issues. It was suggested that more red maples be provided. 2, Louis&Patty Asetta -Sign at 121 Mass Ave. (at Bow Street): MASON B FREY TEL No 517-863-1712 Feb .5 98 14 48 No 002 P 01 Design Advisory Committee Page 2 Meeting Minutes January 13, 1998 Owners of Suburban Floor&Kitchens proposed a three-foot by two-foot free- standing sign in the planter in front of their store and an awning on the front of the building which would also have a sign. DAC recommends as an alternative a wall sign on the building,in the building's sign band zone on the wall parallel to the street, with an awning below. The awning could be retractable, and should have no signage other than the street number of the building. The sign should be a wood panel with carved letters, painted gold. It was suggested that the planter have many flowers, and that any plantings should be low enough so as not to obscure view into the display windows. 3. Jim Nihan-Sian at 25 Hartwell Avenue: Applicant presented drawings for a proposed free-standing sign for a building between U.S.Trust and Federal Express on Hartwell Avenue. Proposed sign is to be aluminum monument type,double-faced,non-illuminated,white with blue and yellow silk-screened graphics, approximately 5 feet high, 3 feet wide, 8 inches thick. The DAC voiced no objections to the proposed sign. 4. Cary Library There will be a meeting January 27 with the Permanent Building Committee at which there will be further design discussions. 5. Depot Square: The project is proceeding;drawings are expected to go out to bid in the Spring. Next meeting; Tuesday,February 10, 19911.
