• Guardian Bank, 45 Waltham Street: Storefront Modification
aye' Joel Chambers representing Guardian Bank came in to discuss the number of
'\ ,emulsiens to be added to a new glass window replacing the original 10' x 10'
VIexisting window• the new bank wants to have a more stable and safer glass
treatment; currently Guardian Bank is proposing to break up the window
expanse into three parts with 2 emulsions at 1-112" wide, each, and claim they ry4.aAl,0,,„
are trying to match the adjacent store (Essex Salon); DAC thinks the neighboring
store has two expanses of glass and one emulsion, however, no one was
positive what the neighboring store treatment had; the DAC recommended
matching the adjacent store regardless if it has two or three sections of glass;
Joel Chambers agreed; the DAC further suggested the bank have photographs
and drawn elevations(including the nearby stores) when the bank is scheduled to
meet with the HDC
• Development at 55 Hayden Road
Planning Board requested DAC review a Site Plan Review submittal for 55
Hayden Road; the site had extensive wetland issues which the plan addresses
with a network of detention basins; John Davies explained the Conservation
Commission is reviewed these drawings and is comfortable with the proposal;
the DAC had the following comments:
1 It is difficult to understand if the entry at the parking is to be considered
a main entry to this new building addition; if so, the site development does
not address it as an entry; it needs to be better defined by a larger
"receiving area" and more formal plantings.
2. A parking island should be added within the expanse of parking for
better pedestrian circulation.

3. The pedestrian connection from the outer parking area to the building
entry Is very circuitous; it seems a bridge connection spanning the
wetlands would be more appropriate, and a more direct route for those
parking in that area; if a bridge Is added, the outer walkway could be
eliminated; however, the DAC understands this would need to be
addressed and approved by the Conservation Commission.
4. The grass strip between the previously mentioned walkway and
parking should be removed; it is a maintenance issue.
5. The vehicular entry needs to be better defined, and this can easily be
done by formalizing the planting at this entry; however, it is not clear if this
is to be considered an entry, of If it is the rear of the building.
6. The planting seems sporadically placed and often in unnecessary
locations; the planting should be more formal especially closer to the
building,:and its placement should typically have a purpose.
