The committee welcomed Jon Longley as a new associate member of the DAC. 2. Mail Boxes Etc:Charlene King presented a proposal for a free standing sign on a single post. It would he located in a small strip of land in front of the Gino s of Italy building on Waltham Street next to the Gulf station. She stressed that this was a preliminary meeting only. The committee suggested a hanging sign perpendicular to the building and advised her to look at other hanging signs in town. 3. Minutes:last months meeting minutes will be forthcoming from Bruce. 4. Pet Mania: Kevin Fraser presented issues regarding his proposed sign at 1628 Mass. Ave. 'the HDC rejected the free standing sign suggested by the DAC. The DAG continues to have concerns about the impact of the sign if hung on the building given its architectural character.John Frey will call Steve Politi to see if the HDG might reconsider its decision.Steve Hurley will meet with Kevin to look at the proposed free standing sign at 1616. 5. Cary Memorial library renovation: the architect, Melissa Bennett, and project representative Walter Pierce, presented recent changes to the project.Walter suggested that a letter from the DAC support- ing the library proposal be sent to the ZBA in time for the hearing this Thursday.The owner of the abutting property to the east Mrs.Douglas,5was also present to express her concerns. She would like clu: existing setback at the alleyway maintained and the new building elevation no higher than that currcndy in place.et.helicves the space between the buildings will become too dark. Walter stated that the cave line would be less than 10. The committee has cgnccrns that some of the issues dis- cussed at the earlier review have not been addressed. Stevetate the process is being rushed and that the importance of this building to the town requires a more thoughtful process. Walter sug- gested that the library building committee would agree to meet to explore the various issues after the MIA meets in order to keep the process moving.Tont asked if a month s delay in ZBA action would cause any difficulty.None was stated.It was suggested that the ZBA be asked for a continuance of the hearing until November to allow the DAC:s concerns to be addressed hi combination with the HOC Specific concerns include massing, elevations,setbacks,entrances,access,and parking lot layout.The project program is not being questioned. The majority of the committee voted to support the con- tinuance. Tom will prepare a letter for John s signature recommending this delay to the ZBA. G. The Waldorf School: the committee recommends that the ZBA approve the free standing u•ntpot ary signs for special events at the school. 7 Next meeting. November 11.
