Present: D.A.C. John Frey(Chair), Betsy Whitman, Carl Oldenburg, Steven
Hurley
Guests:John Davies Planning Board, Betty Clark Lexington Field and Garden
Club, Eva Heney Lexington Minute-Man.
Call to Order-
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 P.M.
Approvals:
The minutes of previous meeting were reviewed and approved.
Discussion
1 Raymond Zayka, Lexington Housing Authority presented proposed sign for
LHA units located on Lowell Street. DAC made the following recommendations:
reduce height of overall sign from 7' 3'
request to submit paint samples
will not be externally lit
request sketch to scale
review guidelines, By-law Guidelines
( 2.Jim Nyhan of Back Bay Signs representing U.S. Trust, 7 Hartwell Avenue,
presented sign alternatives to DAC. DAC made the following recommendations:
16' freestanding interior light not be installed out
of scale with adjacent building
Proposed sign on brick facade not be installed
Sign on clapboard facade facing Bedford Street be installed with
individual red letters lit
Sign on clapboard facade facing parking lot. OK
directory sign OK
sign adjacent to door OK
3. Screening 80 Westview Street
Landscape and architectural drawings submitted for consideration for
special permit for landscape buffer strip. DAC general concepts
presented too much development for triangle shape.
3. Bike rack policy draft
(See previous meeting minutes May 13, 1997)
4 Newspaper vending machine: Final draft to Selectmen Office for review and
comment
5. 34 Hancock Street: HDC approved proposal as submitted
( 6. Flags: Betsy to approach owner of Battle Green Shell to possibly reduce
amount of American flags being flown.
7 Harrington Road: Steve updated DAC on progress of Harrington Road. Met
with Dept. heads of DPW. Eng. Fire, Police, and Town Manager presenting
conceptual sketches of possible alternatives.

removal of rhodis at traffic island
relocation of mail box on island
All above recommendations being considered by Traffic Safety Committee. Next
step meet with Selectmen.
8. Traffic Island signs: Betsy Clark presented design guide lines to be approved
by DAC
The Civic Improvement Committee recommends no signs on adopted
traffic islands. However,for those who feel a sign is necessary, only an official sign
of uniform design (available for purchase)will be permitted.
The above was unanimously approved by the DAC
