Minutes of July meeting approved 2. RI Snyder—Shell (previously presented by Conrad Decker) Shell has agreed to close the curb cut,has brought the canopy height down from 14'6"to 13'8",and increased the number of trees along the street to four We reviewed several issues that had already been decided—there will be a flat roof instead of a pitched roof, and there will be a"pectin"only on the canopy (no lettering) Canopy We again requested that the width of the facia be reduced to a total of 30" (including 6"for the yellow band) The height of the underside of the canopy from the street would remain the same. It was recommended that the pump canopy be reduced proportionately to 22" and that the lighting detail be modified to include the right side of the drawing only It would be ideal to use the Shell symbol only instead of the"Shell in the Box" Cut sheets on lamps have not been provided,as had been requested. The lighting along the street seems excessive. The DAC will recommend approval with certain conditions regarding the lighting and the canopy 3. Digital Sign, 131 Hartwell Ave.—Request to install an internally lit sign. After hearing that externally lit signs are not acceptable,Digital agreed to light the sign externally and plant shrubs around the sign.A sign 5'x 7' (35 sq.ft.) was accepted and recommendations were made (a) to reduce the height of the lower panel for aesthetic reasons (b) to paint the aluminum background neutral gray (c) to paint the address in black (the DIGITAL will be in burgundy) The client will be responsible to ensure that the sign does not look like an internally lit sign which has been illuminated from the outside. 4. Lexington Christian Academy—The request for an externally lit granite sign with landscaping, which would include construction of a stone wall, was well received by the committee.Letters are to be cut in at a height of 6"and may be painted black or some dark color It was requested that the final design of the lettering be passed by the DAC. 5. Discussion: (a) NYNEX sign at Emery Park is too large and has not been presented to HDC or DAC. (b)The Barber Shop which recently requested a barber pole also has an additional sign. (c) Cranberry Hill is lending their auditorium to MMTech and therefore is able to avoid the guide- lines for signage. (d) Upper Story Books (Gretchen)requested a flat sign. She should make an appointment with HDC.Karen will call her (e) Betsey will send a letter to Bill Medlin regarding the painting of the crosswalk at the Garrity House. (0 Newspaper boxes are an eyesore. 6. WWII Monument— It was generally agreed that the design of the monument should have some meaning and that alternative sites should be considered.Maintenance of the site is important.John Frey will attend the meeting. 7 Harrington Road—John V was reluctant to present the traffic trial on the 28th as scheduled—it is a difficult traffic pattern. It was recommended that a larger study be done to look at the common good around the park area. n 8.
