DAC Associates: Bob Ossman, Hubert Murray John Davies,Planning Board;Kathy Green,LF&GC, Vivian Berman.Arts Council; Marianne Lazarus. Meeting called to order at 8:10.Minutes of March 14, 1995, approved as read. Enchantments sign: Amy Sutherland brought in a proposal for a projecting sign 28"x 36"for the Craft Building. Its bracket is like the one of the music store. This is unlike the brackets on the extended bays of the rest of the building. Harrington Road:John Frey and John Vinton have met with Peter Chalpin. There is pressure to have a "temporary fence" John Carroll has offered to donate it.John F and John V have urged a test of the plan whereby Harrington Road extension is blocked off. Motorists going and coming from Hancock Street would use the Bedford and Hancock Street entrance. For the test, the fire trucks cannot swing it.It was suggested there be horses at the extension which could be removed in case of fire. DAC urged a test of this proposal. Minuteman Island: Rick White has requested a modest solution for this"temporary island" (now 6 years old?)acceptable to HDC,LCC,DAC,Selectmen.Steve suggests beginning with a review of any plans so far formulated, i.e. Bob Ossman's,Jackie Olson's,etc. He will meet next week with Karen Bechtel, Barbara Hulsizer, and John Frey Bridge School sign: Lilian Olmsted brought in a proposal for a sign identifying the school. This sign honors recently retired principal,Bill Terris. She spoke of a flat memorial stone to be near sign. Width of sign is 8'0" plus 2 8" wide posts, or 9'4" x 3'0" It would have"v" carved letters, color to be determined. There was lengthy discussion as to where it should be placed.Consensus seemed to be the sign was too wide. It was finally decided that it would be necessary to view a mock-up.This would be in various sizes and samples of proposed color options. The viewing was to be at Bridge at 6:00 p.m. Friday the 21st. Emery Park/Depot Square: Will come before the Planning Board on April 24, 1995. Following that, plans will be reviewed by the HDC and Traffic Advisory Committee. Then the DAC will assess and present our recommendation to the Selectmen. It was suggested that parking spaces be accurately counted. Bikeway bridge at Maple Street: Hubert Murray went through "100% plans" that John got today a District 4.The vertical clearance is 11'6" DAC challenged validity of increased road widths to 14'at bridge, reducing to 11 at each end. This seemed dangerous. Guard rails seemed unnecessary Granite curb would be desirable.Concrete would crumble with not too many snowplowings. State plans to leave a small fraction of old extra support timber. Is that something archaeologically desirable?Ask David Formanek of Arlington. Alarm was expressed in viewing the 4'0" high area left at top of granite abutments. Why? This would be an invitation to vandals and pranksters to get up there and hurl projectiles. It was suggested to reduce it to somewhere in the order of 6" As John Davies offered-make it high enough so raccoons can get in to eat the pigeon's eggs. The "elm" is silver maple. The projectile fence was discussed. It appears to be higher than state standards. John, Hubert, Barbara,Betty Eddison, and Kathy Yates are to look at specifics on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Woodland Road: Marianne Lazarus reported that the Town will remove sick trees on I April 24 Who should be in charge of landscaping. Betsy commented that Minuteman had produced some good designs for Flower Shows. After discussion it was decided that Minuteman Tech should initiate the landscape plans and consult with DAC in the process. Concord Coop Bank: Betty Carl,Jerry Van Hook, and others came to agreement with the Bank that the chain link fence be removed.A white fence will surround air conditioner and dumpster. There will be a freestanding water fountain with spigot for filling watering cans, and maybe a dog water supply? There will also be bike rack and benches. Sign Guide:Waiting for reply from Inspectional Services. Adjournment was at 11:00 p.m. Scribe: Betsy Whitman Next DAC Meeting May 9, 1995, Room 111 at 8:00 p.m.
