Design Advisory Committee
Minutes of March 14 1995
Preliminary minutes subject to review at the next DAC meeting.
Attendees: Members: John Frey, Chairman, Carl Oldenburg, John
Vinton, Betsy Whitman, Tom Coffman, Gary Larson. Karen Bechtel.
Bruce Creager, Barbara Hulsizer Jackie Davison. Planning Board
1 Minutes: February minutes are incomplete.
2. Board of Appeals:
Battle Green Shell requests a new sign that would be mounted
on a brick platform 2 feet high with the sign 9'x8' making the square
footage 54 sq feet. The proposed sign would show the price and the
Shell name. The current sign is 6'x6' on a tall pole without the price.
it does have Auto Care under the Shell name.
Discussion. Size, scale and visibility for cars at the corner were
sighted as being unfavorable. Our goal would be to have a sign that
would maintain the character of this New England town. We prefer
the current sign.
4 Maguire Road. Tom Bromander requested approval of a
square sign 5'x6', white with blue letters, logo and the address, with
a boarder around it. Mounted on a 1' platform.
Recommend. A rectangular sign, with blue background, white
letters and no boarder Mr Bromander gratefully accepted our
recommendations
3. Depot Square: John showed Bob Ossman's design that he copied to
match the other drafting styles.
4 Sign Guide: Next time.
5 Harrington Rd. John Vinton is working on various solutions for
this area so that Harrington Rd. would not have to be closed. Many
suggestions were offered. John will take them to the meeting on
Friday
7 Bikeway bridge: Plans not delivered from Louis Berger
9 Battle Green Sign: Vivian Berman is working on it.

10. 51 Lowell St., Proposed Development. David Hornstein, a
neighbor, spoke about the proposed development voicing his concern
about the removal of the house and barn, as proposed by the
developer, Mark Moore. His pictures showed an elegant old farm
house and barn, now in disrepair, clinging to the farming community
that once was Lexington. Jackie Davison had the plans showing the
4 7 acres of existing conditions as well as options for development.
The plans included cluster housing to accomodate 7 houses in a
cluster with 5 houses in 'Form A Lots' and a proof plan for a
subdivision of 12 houses. The Planning Board according to by-law
approved 5 lots.
DAC Recommends. Preserving the house and barn in their current
surroundings, in order to keep the character of the farm as a whole.
Second we would like to see a link established through the property
between the bikeway and Whipple Hill.
Next meeting April 11, 1995 at 8 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
