1. Minutes of 10/11/94 approved
Minutes of 11/8/94 approved
2. Board of Appeals:
a) Michael Leonard from Upper Story Bookstore requested approval of the larger sign (30"ht.x 27")
as originally requested of,but denied by,the HDC.There was discussion about the limited
amount of information provided regarding height of the sign.It was decided to agree to the
smaller sign as recommended by the HDC and approved last month by DAC.
b) Second review 10 Woburn St.-Europa Auto Imports has not eliminated the curb cuts (within 50'
of the intersection) as was recommended in October by DAC.Two foot planting strips are
thought to be too small since the bylaws recommend,'strips densly planted.
Other concerns: )O
• curb cuts
• lighting (spray and color of)
• lack of screening-especially across from residential zone
• amount of parking in relation to the screening
• how to access dumpster on what appears to be grassy or gravel area
• 10'setback is recommended in bylaws-suggest look at parallel parking
• general concern about whether the proposed use of the site was appropriate for the location
• plans must be prepared by a registered engineer or landscape architect
• who could review the zoning bylaws in regard to this site?
3. Benches:
a) Bob McAuley brought photos and a sketch of his requested bench location. The DAC generally
liked the concept of a bench in that area, but would like to look at the exact siting.Type of pad
and grass cutting around the bench were discussed. It was agreed that this proposal would be
included in the next phase of bench placement, and would be presented with other proposals to
the HDC.
b)The"Sub-committee on Alternatives to Benches"discussed planters (which make difficult
memorials since they are seasonal and must be removed in the winter) and benches without
backs which could be used at athletic fields.Additional benches could be used in the center,at
bus stops and in the alley between Michelson s and the bath.Other possible enhancements to
the alley were discussed. The owner of the CVS building would like to donate a bench-locations
were discussed.
The Committee will look at planters by Victor Stanley and will come up with a list of possible
benches,planters etc.
4. Guidelines:Tom will rewrite the signage guidelines and bring the final guidelines to the meeting.
5. Battle Sign:Vivian Berman was not at the meeting to discuss the Battle Sign.
6. Bikeway Bridge:Bikeway plans to be ready Friday
7 Emery Park:A drawing will be done based on photos that Barbara took.
8. Town Report:DAC picture was taken for town report.
9. Jackie Davison's proposal:Should this be a design issue?A FAR (zoning issue)?Do other towns
have this type of review process?Any comments should be given to John.
Next meeting February 14.
