LEXINGTON DESIGN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
June 7, 1994
Present: John Frey, Chairman, Betsy Whitman, Steve Hurley, Hubert
Murray, Carl Oldenburg, Gary Larson, John Vinton, Barbara Hulsizer
and Guest, Kathy Green from Garden Club.
Approval of minutes with minor corrections.
Board of Appeals. Holiday Inn Express, Bedford St. represented by
Hazel Hopkins, requested to take down Travel Lodge sign and replace
it with a full sign enclosed from top to bottom with a reader board.
Size18'x51/2' Height would be the same as the current sign with
the sign being 30% smaller as well as it being internally
illuminated, blue background with white letters. Betsy suggested
the skirt, bottom part of the sign, not be enclosed and we all agreed.
An internally illuminated directional sign 16' back from Bedord St.
beingl0'sq. was also requested. Steve thought this wouldn't fit into
the current signs in this residential area.
DAC Recommendation. Keep signs simple by not enclosing the
bottom of the large sign and using a wooden externally illuminated
sign on two posts for the directional sign.
See attached DAC memos sent to Board of Appeals re two Shell
stations and Bertucci s.
Subdivisions. The Planning Board requests that the DAC review all
subdivision proposals. We did discuss ways to take on this task
without coming to any conclusion.
Review of plans for new approved lot at Adams and Hancock Sts.
designed by John Austin and Pat Austin, the contractor This was an
exchange of information.
Benches: DAC approved 2 benches at Town Hall, 1 at East Branch
Library, 1 at the E. Branch Fire Station, 2 at the Visitor's Center, 2
on Bedford St. near Meriam St. and 4 at Hastings Park.
Bikeway bridge: Hubert is waiting to hear from Bob MacDonald.
Hubert recommended keeping stone sides, no narrow tunnels rather a
simple structure of steel for the bridge no conrete culverts or
arches
Route 2A/128. A meeting at Jay Kaufman's house produced a proposal
concerning safety, aesthetics, traffic flow and the environment
which will be presented to the Selectmen.
Guidelines. Signage Design Review draft by Tom Coffman wasn't
discussed.
Woodland Rd. Meeting held June 4th. Most issues resolved, including
path alignment. Final review of architecture to occur after Marshal
Derby submits drawing reflecting suggestions of DAC and neighbors.
Next meeting will be August 9th.
