Minutes of 4/12/94 approved Minutes of 4/8/94 (Hubert Murray) approved Minutes of neighborhood meeting 4/2094 approved with addition of diagram 2. Shell Oil Company Conrad Decker and John Sterling of Shell Oil Co.presented proposals for gas station canopies at 330 Woburn Street-A 24'x40'canopy (14.5'height under deck) containing 8 lights, and illumi- nated signs were proposed with the intention of leaving the existing free-standing pole sign in place. The Committee had several concerns including the sheer number of signs to be used;the illumination of the signs;the scale of the canopy in relation to other buildings in the area;the rather small size of the proposed planters;the lack of new trees proposed and the safety of cars entering and exiting the station. It was suggested that the planters be increased in size, and two trees be planted in each.A request was made for real (no plastic!) flowers.Shell was concerned about the area required for the large trucks servicing the station. It was agreed that a small group meeting would be arranged to review a revised proposal before the Planning Board meeting on May 26. "5 Forks Shell" -286 Lincoln Street-A 36'x50'canopy with signage was proposed. The Committee had strong objections to the enormity of the canopy in a neighborhood of this scale (where the setback is 30') It was suggested that the canopy could be cut in half to cover only the pumps closest to the building;more trees could be planted;2 curb cuts could be used instead of 4. Shell proposed taking another look at this site, and suggested that they may ask for a continuance. It was agreed that Steve Hurley John Vinton,Tom Coffman and John Frey would meet to review these proposals on Thursday May 19 at 7:00. crNCCI 3. Bertucci's-Mr DiGuiseppe of Maim Associates presented a plan for signage and a canopy for a planned Bertucci's Restaurant at the site of the present Versailles Restaurant The proposal was for an internally lit, 1'6"hxl1'9"I sign at the front of the building,a Tuscan yellow cloth canopy under the sign, and for signage at the back entrance. The sign could also be lit by soffit lighting(which already exists) with wooden or painted letters. This was preferred by the Committee.Concern was expressed about the rather bright color scheme, and it was suggested that some more subdued colors would be more in keeping with the character of downtown Lexington. A revised proposal will be presented at the small meeting on May 19. 4. Crisis Services, 1040 Waltham Street-It was requested that this proposal be presented in person. (Signage) 5. Woodland Road-In response to the meeting at the abutter's house,Marshall Derby presented 3 plans.A decision was needed to meet the timetable. It was agreed that Plan B-with the house on the uphill side, and the new path meeting the existing path further back-meets both the neighborhood's goals and creates a more desirable site for the house.Plan B was approved. An 8' path with shoulders was agreed upon.It was requested that other house designs be looked at besides the existing plan for a 24'x35'energy-efficient house. 6. Route 2A-meeting at 9:00 at Forbes Road. 7 Next DAC meeting scheduled for June 7 since some members will be away the following week. 8. Emery Park-Steve Hurley presented 2 plans: (a) (B.Hulsizer's plan) moves L'Express to the sidewalk on the east side of the Park expanding the sidewalk and eliminating the parking along the Park (total loss of 1 space) (b) L'Express uses Edison Way,and the Warm Hearts. corner Picks upparking spaces. Barbara Lucas and Sara Arnold stressed that L'Express is a public service, and needs a public location.General concerns were expressed about bus rider's safety in crossing streets to use the T and in exiting the bus in the darkness of the parking lot plan (b) Kathy Green was in favor of the idea of routing the busses behind the bank and out Meriam Street. It was proposed that the group move forward with Barbara Hulsizer s plan, with the knowledge that other issues are still open. Funding of the project was discussed. The meeting was adjourned at 11:45pm.
