3 Special permit for Chinese Bible Church:
By-law limits signs for churches to two: 20 sf. and 10 sf. Proposed is 3'x 18' (54
sf)in area defined by letters only
Two signs are permitted on street frontages.
Comments: The entire retaining wall is in essence a sign-approx 15'x 80' Route
2 is not a street frontage. Size and location would be a precedent.
Committee unanimously agreed that Route 2 location and size as proposed is
inappropriate.
4 Waldorf School. Jeff Buster presented a bench proposal on behalf of school.
School children are designing and constructing a bench as part of curriculum.
School would like to locate bench near school for public use. Design was
discussed.

Comments: Committee needs to see final design before fiuther comment.
Concern regarding visual aspects of proposed design. Committee believes it
is possible but requires more review Teak is appropriate material. Plans
need to be developed.
5 Board of Appeals: Landscape plan for Eliot Community Services Inc. was
approved by committee dated 4/15/93 revised.
Dunkin Donuts: J Frey wrote memo to board with committee approval dated
4/27/93
Battle Green Shell. J Frey wrote memo to board with committee approval
dated 4/27/93
6. Emery Park: S. Hurley provided update on plan, and process.
7 Signs on Battle Green: Committee expressed some concern regarding another
sign on green. No current policy exists but should be developed. Committee
is split on appropriateness of proposed sign to be located on green but agrees
more information is required. P Read is proceeding with site analysis for
basis of policy development.
A letter will be sent to the Board of Selectmen to state:
Committee agrees with need for signage. However, appropriate location of
this is still a concern. A policy needs to be developed.
8. Bike Path: S Hurley is to provide response to Friends of Bikeway letter
regarding memorial.
9 Benches: Two new requests. Possible locations -Hastings Park(current) and
Emery Park(future). JF BH,TC, SH to walk Hastings to look at possible
locations.
10 Chadwicks: Committee reviewed current parking and landscape plan and
agreed on its appropriateness.
11 Buckman Tavern Bench: Approved by committee. B Hulsizer to contact
Selectmen for their information and approval.
12. Next meeting 6/8/93, 8:00PM.
