LEXINGTON DESIGN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MAY 12, 1992
Attending: John Frey, Jack Eddison, Betsy Whitman, Peg Read,
Kerry Brandin, Steve Hurley and Barbara Hulsizer
1 Minutes of April 14, 1992 were reviewed and approved with a
minor correction.
2. East Lexington: a report by Jack Eddison on the progress of the
landscape proposal for Mr Sun's property was given. Mr.
Eddison proposed that Mr Sun pay for the plant material
and the D.P W would do the installation. The yew hedge
is on half town property and half Mr. Sun's property The
East Lexington Association will contribute $200.00 of their
$600.00 toward this landscape upgrade.
Countryside: Mr Eddison proposes that a meeting be arranged
with the owners of Countryside mini-mall to talk about
planting street trees and reduce curb cuts. There is some
money left in the Countryside account. The Engineers will
mark the town property line.
School Street: Mr Eddison reported that 3 new red oaks have
been planted in the same location as the ones that were
planted last year next to the Methodist Church parking lot.
Waltham Street: in front of the shops, were Tricon Sports and
the new bagel shop are, trees will be planted there Mr Eddison
reports
3 Emery Park/Depot Square: Betsy Whitman advised us of the
change in the Progress Report. Number 4 c. which states "that
the Selectmen on the May 5, 1992 meeting voted to have
Frank Fields of Engineering meet with the State D.P W to
somewhat realign the bikeway as it passes through the
Meriam Street lot. This occurred without the knowledge
of this study group." Look at #5 for more information.
4 Parking Lots: Edison Way and Meriam Street as reported by
Steve Hurley
Topo map and survey will be done by Town Engineering as their
time permits.
A computerized plan of the Depot Square was shown.
The relationship of the square to the bike path was discussed.
The legal description of property lines of Depositor's Trust
will be researched by Frank Fields.
Frank Fields suggested that there could be a trade off of
LexPress parking spaces around Emery Park for parking on
Mass. Ave. for LexPress.
Next Step: Get parking plan that Bob Ossman has drawn to
Frank Fields for his feed back. The Ossman plan was done
without the benefit of a survey, a survey is needed.
Follow The Dixon report requirements.
The goal is to get more parking and better circulation.
John Frey will contact Mr Ossman about the plan.
For the record on who has what plans:
Betsy Whitman has two plans of Depot Square: Existing
Conditions and the plan showing the relocation of LexPress
as drawn by Frank Fields.
John Frey has the plan of Depot Square, Meriam St. Parking Lot,
and the Bikeway
5. Bikeway Town requested to Mass. DPW District 4 that the bike
path be diverted by 9 feet instead of 12 feet along the
hemlocks between Meriam Street parking lot and Edison way
Granite curbs will have to be dug out for the diversion.
Mr Eddison says that the MBTA owns the right of way and
each town can license to operate and maintain the surface.
But not maintain the bridges. Police responsible for public
safety, traffic and litter Town not responsible for
resurfacing
6. Benches: Jack Eddison suggested that the two benches
that are being proposed on Mass. Ave. at the bus stop at
Cary Library be moved 10'-15' toward the center of town.
One of these benches is in honor of Jere and Fred Frick for
their contribution of volunteer service to the town.
Locations of the suggested benches.
