Meeting Minutes
( August 23, 2010
Attending: Susan Rockwell, Donna Hooper, Richard Kollen, Van Seasholes,
Denise Dube
Absent: Cindy Savage; Jessie Steigerwald; Suzie Barry, Town Celebrations
Committee
The Lexington 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee met at 10.00 a.m., Monday,
August 23, 2010 in Room 111, Town Office Building., 1625 Massachusetts Ave.
Points Discussed:
1. Minutes of July 26th were adopted as amended.
2. Donna Hooper updated the Committee on the following:
a. Incorporation papers-Attorney Alan Wrigley is working on draft and
hopes to provide a copy for the next meeting
b. The Web site and email are up and running-
i. Committeenalexinaton300.us or Information(illexineton300.us
ii. www.lexineton300 us
iii. September 21st event mailing reply-reply has been very slow; the
Committee should be prepared to follow-up with in-person calls
to those invited
iv Sue Rockwell sending second mailing to schools, churches,
council on aging, etc.
3. Application for interested entities to be sanctioned as `official event'of 300th
Anniversary Celebration should be finalized and posted on web site before
September 21st
4 A `Special Revenue Account'will be sought for the Committee to accumulate
funds for use during the celebration period. In addition, a second year's
appropriation to the Town Celebrations budget line item for 300th
anniversary celebration will be submitted for FY2012
5. Need for Subcommittees was raised- Committee should consider
subcommittees required to effectively organize the celebration
6. Denise Dube recommended some avenues for publicity, including the
community newspaper's electronic `Patch' website.
a. Denise will send press release for the September 21st meeting to the
Lexington Minuteman and Colonial Times newspapers
7 September 21st Meeting Presentation:
a. Dick Kollen will present an estimated 45 minute overview of the history
of the Town (not including the Battle)
b. Van Seasholes asked how we might entice attendance at the meeting
c. Lasting Memorial-
i. How to `spiff up'the Town?
ii. Permanent Memorial to commemorate the 300th anniversary?
iii. Time capsule?- at the Stone Building during the 300th
celebration?
d. Van Seasholes-to pursue the celebration's logo with the Coordinator of
the High School's Fine Arts Department, Sean Hagan- [781-861 2320
x1427].
e. Van Seasholes to check with the High School for an interactive piece for
the Celebration's web site
Next meeting: Wednesday September 15, 2010 - 1:00 p.m., Town Office Building.
Meeting adjourned 11.30 a.m.
