Mr Haskell Reed, Chairman;rl//william Maloney; Mr. Ralph Tucker; Mrs.(Ruth) George Morey; and Miss Hazel Murray, Secretary The Selectmen were shown the tentative schedule of capital expenditures made out by this committee ..Mr Reed said some figures were not yet "firm." He listed the following as planned capital expenditures: Sidewalks $ 50,000 Curbs 5,000 Drainage 53,000 Streets 100,000 (This includes the relocation of Allen Street and covers all requests) Sewers 286,000 plus $ 40,000 (M.Hastings) (might want Hifall) ($130,000 approp. in fall) Water 118,600 Equipment 44,870 (sweeper and new bulldozer account for $30,000 of this) (there is $48,000 in the Road Machinery Fund) Mr Brown asked about continuing Worthen Road. Mr Reed said this was a project of the Planning Board and it is up to .hem to "car y the ball " Making Route 2 a limited access highway will affect plans. Mr Brown asked if the Selectmen were planning for an incinerator as the dump may last less then five years. Mr deed said the Selectmen have not discussed what to do if the dump closed, but probably would have a second dump (a swampy era could be used) Mr Brown asked about new fire station. Mr Reed said this is not needed at this time Mr Tucker said eventually the Town may need two new stations; the plan for one on Marrett Road still leaves an area in north Lexington far from any station. Mr Brown asked about requests for capital expenditures for the development of recreational land. Mr Reed said this "is under our jurisdiction." The Selectmen plan to develop the John Baskin land into a recreation area. Mr Brown asked about the Seabury land aquisition for 41300 in conjunction with Maria Hastings School. Originally the Selectmen thought they had aquired it in exchange for a sewer easement (they said) The have lot B, now want lot C The Selectmen thought it best for this to be school land (added to M.Hasins to total 13 acres)instead of recreation. SELECTMEN (cont.) page 2 Mr Brown asked about the future of recreation; the purchase and or development of neighborhood play areas He asked about the es .mate of $2000 for cost of land by Planning Board plus 88,000 cost of development by Selectmen. Mr Reed said that the development and improvement of the Laskin land in 1957 by the Selectmen is to cost about $10,000 More will be spent in 1958. Mr Reed thought $2,000 a low estimate for purchase price of recreation area (owner of area beyond Circle Road in East Lexington wants $8 to 10,000) Mr Brown suggested $20,00u as a realistic total after 1957 Mr Carrier asked about capital expenditures involved in altering the old Town Office Building. Mr Reed said at most it will cost $5,000 to fix up the downstairs Mr Brown asked if the Selectmen planned any other capital expenses Mr Reed said they plan to buy a new water billing machine for $3535 If they find any more they will call. kV QIP
