Present — George C Shelaon, Chairman, Ha:old E. :Roeder, and Wm. 'P Fitzgerald. C.E.C. members present were Donala Noyes, Chrman. , Paul*palmer, KennethWard'en, and Ruth Souza. The fire commissioners had sent a lettei Sept. 15 listing their needs for the next five years. Mr Noyes stated that C E.C. would assume the need for replacement o: equipment which had been full;), discussed. last year The need for a new lire station was the subject of main interest. Radio Station. The item of 42,500 for a Radio Station listed as needed in 1961 can be deleted rom the Fire Department Budget. ,kir. Roeder stated that the town will have one separate band of its own instead of fire and police bands. Therefore the fire dept. cannot have its band. The Civil*Defense Committee will have to build a radio station for the whole totn' at=estimated cost Of 83,500 FIRE STATION The one new fact is that Raytheon will spend 82,000,000 and other people may be bundle,, Therefore there may be more need at this time for a station at the Marrett Roar" location. Roeder listen the arguments for a station. 1 the underwriters have surveydd the town three times and always said that we needed a station at Lanett Road. 2. Test runs made by Lexington Fire Department from both stations to Five Fields showed that 2k minutes would be saved by having a station there. Still more time would be saved if runs were made at peak traffic times. R. At least 2k minutes would be saved in travelling to Maria Hastings School from Marrett Road location rather than the present tyro fire stations. 3. Raytheon may have to pay higher insurance rates because the closest station is more than 2 miles away (Roeder was not sure this was so but thought it migat se so— they will look up the insurance rates. ) Sheldon— The town is doing uo have industry The more industry, the more fires even With careful zoning Equipment — No additional equipment would be needed for this station. It would house 'a pump and hose truck, the first equipment to arrive at a fire. Sheldon. "new station does not mean more equipment or more manpower We have the problem of coveting the town, the only question here is the distribution." "We don't contemplate any additional equipment except. possibly brush fire e4uiptent." Men—Need 9 more men whether station is built or not. Price- 060,000 is a guess based on what some other towns have paid. No plans or estimates have been made. Type of Station — Two—door station (because eventually this will be a company itself) In 30 years all three stations would have ladders and pumps. After the third station the town would need no additional stations, according to toe underwriters. Possibility of 1962 recommendation rather than 1961 Roeder felt that there might be a request for one sooner from Rte. 2 people (Raytheon) Possible high insurance cost to Raytheon is a matter of serious concern to him. Traffic is getting worse in Lexington each year and the time saved in geting to a fire in this area of Lexington would be greater fltTLL TOWER Sheldon suggests leaving it in without comment at this time,. and discussing it latex. This w hi7d c a good trainigg tool if theyget it. The nest traning is getLsng ofI SacTcaeers and onto abuilding Then shoula have it.
